There are storms outside us…
And then there are storms we create within.
And sometimes,
we don’t even realize
we are the ones controlling them.
The Tempest by William Shakespeare was written in the early 1600s, near the end of his life.
It is often seen as one of his final plays — almost like a quiet farewell.
But it doesn’t feel like an ending.
It feels like a reflection.
A man looking back at everything he has been.
And everything he has lost.
The story begins with chaos.
A violent storm at sea.
A ship on the verge of destruction.
But this storm is not natural.
It has been created.
On a mysterious island lives Prospero — a man who was once powerful, betrayed, and cast away.
Now he holds something far more dangerous than power.
Control.
Through knowledge, magic, and silence,
he shapes the world around him.
Even the storm.
The people on that ship…
they are not strangers.
They are the very ones who wronged him.
And now, fate has brought them back into his hands.
What follows is not just a story of revenge.
It is something deeper.
Something quieter.
Something human.
Because as Prospero begins to confront his past,
he also begins to confront himself.
And that is where the real storm begins.
The deeper truth of The Tempest is not about magic.
It is about control.
The desire to control people.
To control outcomes.
To control pain.
We all do it in our own ways.
We replay conversations in our minds.
We hold onto anger.
We imagine justice.
We build invisible storms inside us…
hoping one day they will give us peace.
But they never do.
Because control is not peace.
It is tension disguised as power.
And revenge…
is often just pain trying to feel important.
What makes this story powerful is not what Prospero does —
but what he chooses not to do in the end.
He lets go.
Not because he forgets.
Not because it didn’t hurt.
But because holding on
was costing him more than it was giving.
And maybe that is the quiet lesson Shakespeare left behind.
That the strongest thing a person can

"Your life is shaped quietly, through ordinary choices that rarely feel important in the moment. The hour you wake up. The work you do when nobody is watching. The promises you keep to yourself. The distractions you refuse. The standards you maintain even when motivation disappears." The Mind Authority.
