UPDATE: Newborn undergoes successful life-saving encephalocele surgery at Maxicare Hospital
The newborn whose condition was recently highlighted by Hot in Juba has successfully undergone a life-saving surgery at Maxicare Hospital.
Following public appeals for support and awareness, the hospital's pediatric surgery team on 3 July 2026 successfully performed a complex operation to repair the baby's encephalocele, a rare birth defect in which brain tissue protrudes through an opening in the skull.
The successful procedure marks a significant milestone in neonatal neurosurgery.
Maxicare Hospital credited the achievement to the dedication of its medical team, including Dr. Alsadig Corina, Dr. Helen Lemi, Dr. Betty Arkangelo, Dr. Aluat (Anaesthesiologist), Mama Rina, Fatima, Christina, Helen Nartisio Sudani, and the entire hospital staff.
This outcome is a reminder of the power of responsible journalism. By bringing urgent cases to the public's attention, the media can mobilize support, amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard, and help connect those in need with timely intervention. Hot in Juba is proud to have played a role in giving this baby's story the attention it deserved.
