Thailand Rainy Season Travel: Watch Out for Dengue Fever ⚠️
During Thailand’s rainy season (May–October), mosquitoes rapidly increase due to frequent rain and high humidity.
One of the biggest health risks travelers should be aware of is Dengue Fever.
The mosquito that spreads dengue, the Aedes mosquito, is especially dangerous because it:
bites during the daytime
can breed even in clean standing water
is commonly found in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket
Common Symptoms
Sudden high fever
Severe body aches and joint pain
Headache and pain behind the eyes
Skin rash
Extreme fatigue
⚠️ Seek medical attention immediately if you experience:
Persistent vomiting
Severe stomach pain
Bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums, etc.)
Difficulty breathing
Confusion or extreme weakness
Prevention Is More Important Than Treatment
There is currently no specific cure for dengue fever, so prevention is essential.
✔ Use mosquito repellent (DEET or picaridin recommended)
✔ Wear long sleeves and long pants
✔ Check window screens and doors in your accommodation
✔ Shower and change clothes after outdoor activities
Be extra careful at:
night markets
golf courses
outdoor resort areas
riverside restaurants
Thailand’s rainy season can be a great time to travel with lower prices and fewer tourists, but health management becomes even more important.
Don’t underestimate mosquitoes during your trip. 🦟
