One week to go until our panel discussion "Malaria, Medicine, and Hope: Standing with Myanmar" on campus at The Australian National University.

Our line-up of panellists includes:
⭐Virginia Haussegger AM is a journalist, television presenter, author and 2019 ACT Australian of the Year Awards.

⭐Prof Rose McGready is the 2026 ACT Australian of the Year Awards for her work in migrant and refugee health on the Thai-Myanmar border.

⭐Dr Hannah Kelly is a postdoctoral scientist at ANU, whose research centres on innovative vaccine technologies for infectious diseases, in particular malaria.

⭐Dr Phyu Phyu Thin Zaw is a Myanmar Australian Fellow at the University of Melbourne and ANU, a medical doctor, and an epidemiologist.

วันนี้ เวลา 06.30 น. ตัวแทนจาก SMRU/BHF ได้เข้าร่วมพิธีทำบุญประจำปีการศึกษา 2569 ของโรงเรียนบ้านห้วยนกแล พร้อมทั้งมอบทุนการศึกษาแก่เหล่านักเรียนที่มีความประพฤติดี ช่วยเหลือกิจกรรมและสร้างชื่อเสียงให้แก่โรงเรียน แต่ยังขาดแคลนทุนทรัพย์ เพื่อสนับสนุนโอกาสทางการศึกษาและสร้างขวัญกำลังใจให้แก่เยาวชนในชุมชน

Visit from South-East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO)

5-6 May 2026

SMRU/BHF was pleased to welcome visitors from the South-East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, on 5–6 May 2026.

On 5 May 2026, the visit began with welcoming and opening remarks by the Head of the Community Public Engagement Department (CPE), Ladda Kajeechiwa, followed by a presentation on the CPE work and engagement activities carried out by the CPE team. The visitors also introduced SEACO's work, presented by Senior Manager Dr. Mohd Azrizan Bin Bakir. The session concluded with a productive Q&A discussion.

On 6 May 2026, the visitors joined site visits to the SMRU/BHF Maternal & Child Health (MCH) outreach at KM 44 to observe the activities carried out by the MCH team, followed by a visit to the MKT clinic.

As SEACO is still developing its engagement experience, the visit provided a valuable opportunity for the team to spend time with SMRU/BHF staff, learn from field experiences, understand challenges faced in community work, and observe the different types of engagement activities carried out in the field.
