HOW DO RP AND STARGARDT AFFECT COLOR PERCEPTION?👁️🎨

Color perception is more than simply identifying colors. It also involves recognizing contrast, distinguishing shades, and perceiving visual details.

In individuals with RP and Stargardt disease, color perception may change in different ways. Some may experience faded or muted colors, while others may have difficulty distinguishing between certain shades and contrasts.

This visual is intended to illustrate a possible example of how color perception can differ compared to typical vision. However, every individual’s experience is unique and may vary depending on the condition and its progression.

👁️ Visual perception may vary from person to person.

RP Has More Than 150 Gene Mutations. But Does It Affect Every Patient the Same Way?👁️✨

RP is not a disease that progresses the same way in every patient. Due to its genetic diversity, symptoms, disease progression, and visual challenges can vary significantly from one individual to another.

Some patients may primarily experience night vision difficulties, while others may notice peripheral vision loss or different visual concerns. This is why a one-size-fits-all approach is not appropriate for RP.

Understanding each patient’s unique condition is essential for developing a personalized treatment and follow-up strategy. The genetic complexity of RP highlights the importance of individualized care for every patient.

How exactly does the Dr. Osman Fıratlı Method work?👁️✨

Since each of my patients has different symptoms, disease progression, and individual needs, I plan every treatment approach specifically for the patient.
The Dr. Osman Fıratlı Method is based on a personalized electrostimulation approach.
During the treatment process, I determine the selected points according to the patient’s clinical findings, symptom analysis, and overall evaluation.
Even for the same patient, I may prefer different point combinations throughout the process.
Because what matters here is not only the points themselves, but the therapeutic system created by the relationship between those points.
For this reason, I plan a unique and individualized approach for every patient and every treatment process.💫

👁️ The comments shared by our Retinitis Pigmentosa patient, who came to our clinic from Stuttgart, Germany, regarding his treatment journey are very valuable to us ✨

Our patient stated that when he first arrived, he could not even distinguish the sea through the windows of our waiting area. However, after the treatment process, he began to perceive the sea and recognize the ships in the distance.

In retinal diseases, proper process management, regular follow-up, and a personalized approach are extremely important. Even the small changes our patients experience in their daily lives carry great meaning for us.💫

Our 13-year-old Stargardt patient who came to our clinic from Romania 🌿

Early management, regular follow-up, and the right approach are extremely important in retinal diseases. In this process, we evaluate our patients not only from a clinical perspective, but also through a holistic approach focused on their quality of life.

The trust and support of patients traveling to us from different countries mean a great deal to us. We were very pleased to welcome our 13-year-old Stargardt patient and his valuable family to our clinic.

We wish him and his family a healthy, beautiful, and hopeful journey ahead ✨

👁️ Why Is Early Diagnosis So Important in RP and Stargardt Disease?

Patients with RP and Stargardt disease may experience not only vision loss, but also additional conditions such as strabismus, double vision, and nystagmus. Nystagmus, in particular, can make it difficult for patients to focus due to involuntary eye movements.

Although many experimental studies are being conducted around the world, early diagnosis and early intervention still remain one of the most important factors.

❗️For this reason, we recommend that patients seek professional evaluation as soon as they receive their diagnosis.

🧬 If RP or Stargardt Disease Runs in the Family, Can It Also Affect Our Child?

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and Stargardt disease are genetically inherited retinal disorders. However, this does not necessarily mean that every child will develop the condition.

The risk of inheritance may vary depending on:
▫️The genetic subtype.
▫️Whether the parents are carriers.
▫️The family history.

For this reason, it is not scientifically accurate to make a clear prediction based solely on whether the mother or father has the disease.

In some individuals, the disease may never appear, while in others it may present in milder or more advanced forms. Therefore, regular retinal and eye examinations are especially important for children with a family history of inherited retinal disease.

Accurate evaluation is the most critical step in managing Retinitis Pigmentosa.👁️

We conducted a comprehensive examination and diagnostic assessment for our 29-year-old patient who came from Germany.
Based on the findings, we evaluated the current status of the disease and established a personalized follow-up and treatment plan.

In retinal diseases, early and accurate intervention is key to effective management.✨

Color Blindness Test: Not Everyone Sees the Same Number👁️🎨

Many of our patients can correctly identify colors one by one. However, this does not necessarily mean that their color perception is completely normal.

During the color blindness tests we perform in the clinic, especially with number-based visual plates, the responses we receive provide much clearer insight. Subtle differences in perception that may go unnoticed in daily life can become evident in these tests.

Therefore, simply saying “I can see colors” is not enough. Proper evaluation of color perception requires specific testing.

If you are unsure about your color perception, it is important to recognize this early with simple tests and seek appropriate evaluation.💫

What Is the Difference Between Stargardt and Retinitis Pigmentosa?👁️✨

Central vision allows you to recognize faces and read text. When this area is affected, patients cannot distinguish faces, cannot read, and cannot clearly see what they are directly looking at. This pattern is most commonly associated with Stargardt disease.

On the other hand, some patients say, “I can see, but I can’t see anything at night.” In these cases, central vision is usually preserved, but peripheral vision is reduced. Night vision problems are the most important clue, suggesting Retinitis Pigmentosa.

The key difference is this: Stargardt primarily affects central vision, whereas Retinitis Pigmentosa mainly affects peripheral and night vision. However, a definitive diagnosis is made through a combination of patient symptoms, visual field tests, retinal imaging, and a detailed eye examination. Understanding where the vision loss begins is the most critical step in making the correct diagnosis.💫
