Erdem sen Bilgi’deki master’ını tamamlamış mıydın, diye çok arayıp soran oldu bugünkü gündem vesilesiyle. Bilgi Üniversitesi Sinema Televizyon Bölümü’ndeki yüksek lisansımı geçen yaz bitirdim dostlar🎥
Mesleki yaşantım tüm hızıyla devam ederken, yeniden akademik hayatın içine girerek sınırlarımı zorlamıştım. Önümde bitirmem gereken bir de tez vardı zira. Kan, ter ve gözyaşı : ) İyi ki yapmışım.
Ameliyathane ile sinema perdesi arasında bir yerde durup, şunu sordum:
İnsan bedeni ne zaman “güzel” olmaktan çıkıp “tekinsiz” görünmeye başlar?
Ve bir plastik cerrah olarak durduğum yerden, 2024 yapımı “The Substance” filmi üzerine bir tez yazdım. Sinema filozofu Gilles Deleuze’ün kuramları, beden üzerindeki toplumsal normatif baskılar ve beden dönüşümleri…
İki disiplin çerçevesinde üretim yaptığım bu muazzam deneyim için Bilgi Üniversitesi’ne ve değerli akademisyenlerine müteşekkirim🎩

🇬🇧A lot of people reached out today asking, “Erdem, did you ever finish your master’s degree at Bilgi?”
Well, yes — I completed my Master’s degree in Cinema and Television at Bilgi University last summer, friends 🎥
While my professional life was moving at full speed, I pushed myself back into academia once again. And of course, there was a thesis waiting to be finished. Blood, sweat, and tears : ) Totally worth it.
Somewhere between the operating room and the cinema screen, I stopped and asked myself:
At what point does the human body stop appearing “beautiful” and start to feel “uncanny”?
And from the perspective I stand in as a plastic surgeon, I wrote my thesis on an analysis of the 2024 film The Substance. Through the theories of philosopher Gilles Deleuze, the normative social pressures imposed on the body, and bodily transformations…
I’m deeply grateful to Bilgi University and its valuable academics for this incredible experience of producing work across two disciplines 🎩
Since the topic came up, I might as well leave my thesis and graduation photo here too.
