The Walking Spondies

The Walking Spondies We walk to raise awareness for Axial Spondyloarthritis (Ankylosing Spondylitis), fibromyalgia & ME. Please register to walk with The Walking Spondies!

Contact Admin (Carrie Kellenberger) for further details. We are walking to raise awareness for people who suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis and Spondylitis-related diseases. We are a GLOBAL team that has been walking for awareness since 2014. AS is a form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, although other joints can become involved. It causes inflammation of the vertebrae that can lead

to severe chronic pain, discomfort, anxiety, and depression. There is no cure for AS. Spondylitis is NOT rare diseases. 1 in 140 people have axSpA. But we desperately need more awareness or funding for research so patients can have more quality of life and better treatment options. All you need is a pedometer or a friend to walk for you. We are tracking our daily step count for May. You'll submit your weekly step count for the month of May to help us celebrate:

World AS Day on May 7, 2022.

*We can also track one-time walkers at our special walking events that are held in Taipei. Our team steps are then totaled collectively with teams that are walking all over the world. We are trying to take enough steps to be the first group of people to 'set foot' on Mars. This team has walked around Taiwan together many times since 2014. You can walk as much or as little as you like. Use the time to get some exercise, walk your fur baby (their steps count too!) or simply have a little fun with team challenges. Challenges are not mandatory. Thank you for choosing to walk with us and bring awareness to these terrible diseases.

Hey WalkStars! We have entered the last week of Walk Your A.S. Off with Spondylitis Association of America. Don't forget to log your steps for last week!

I just entered my step count as well as Anne-Marie's step count. As a pro athlete who is engaging in numerous kinds of sports at 70 years of age, she is clocking over 100,000 steps a week easily.

I won't share my step count. I'll only say that I am getting my steps in every single day the best way I can: walking, stretching, and seated movement.

See you at the finish line!

Chronically yours
Carrie Marshall
Team Captain of and Founder of My Several Worlds

(Yup, still averaging 3-4 appointments a week. 🫠)

Purple for in 2026. It's my first fibro awareness event in Canada after 17 years.

I've supported Kristal's annual event since 2018. Maybe longer? Time to !

I try to support all my friends and their awareness initiatives. This one is for Kristal Kent, author of The Fibromyalgia Pain Chronicles and Veteran Voices For Fibromyalgia. πŸ’œ

Hello WalkStars! It's time to log your steps! (Check the link in comments to see where to log your steps.)

I'm introducing a new member to our team today and she's moving like wildfire. Meet Anne-Marie! I call her The Legend. This was her response last week when she sent me her totals.

β€œI am hardly a superstar athlete. I just love my ability to do triathlons even at 70.”

Over the past 10 days, her training included:
πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ Multiple long-distance swims
πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ More than 130 km of cycling
πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Long run/walk sessions up to 20 km
πŸ’ͺ Strength training, Pilates, and interval work
🐾 And even extra walks with Sammy
This adds up to 206,000 equivalent steps of movement!

What inspires me most about Anne-Marie's mindset:

β€œMy motto is keep on moving β€” whatever you can do that will help you enjoy life.”

That is exactly what Walk Your A.S. Off and The Walking Spondies are all about.

Movement does not have to look perfect. It does not have to be fast. It does not have to break records. It just has to keep you connected to life, joy, community, and yourself.

Anne-Marie's passion is triathlons and aquabike. At 70 years old, she is still showing up, still moving, and still proving what is possible with determination and love for sport.

Absolutely inspiring. 🌟

Are you moving for awareness with us this May?

Carrie Marshall, Team Captain of The Walking Spondies

Life with / is a pain in the AS!

The Walking Spondies are looking for walkers for 2026. Join us for with ! We're in our 12th year of walking!

I got my diagnosis in 2009. By 2014 I was out of remission for the second time. I feel like I got into bed in Dec 2014 and never got out! That was the end of my life as I knew it. My arthritis has left me bedridden, housebound, and it has changed my body in ways that are irreversible.

All my joints are affected, but my knees have been ravaged by this disease. I never believed that I would become housebound or bed-bound, but that is what has happened. It's my new normal.

I’m no longer able to walk in this event like I used to, but I’m still logging steps with my team. We're walking through the stars to Mars! 🌠
