On Friday night we had the privilege of returning to Gables on Finch for the Royal Commonwealth Society of Victoria’s Kings Birthday celebration. James, Abbi and Mel gave a small presentation on our most recent deployment to Tanzania and we were able to show exactly how their generous donation from last year was put to use in the establishment of the Tinga Tinga Community First Responder team.

We appreciate and value the support of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Victoria in helping us achieve our charities goals of teaching first aid providing pre-hospital care to those in remote and disadvantaged areas of Tanzania

A few weeks ago we told you about a mama who we were able to help with vital medications for a medical condition that had been untreated for months simply because she was unable to afford the medication she desperately needed to allow testing to be done. With the help of everyone who collects bottles and cans for us in Victoria for the 10 cent refund we were able to help this mama out with those medications. She has recently undergone surgery and is on the road to recovery. It will be a slow recovery but she is being supported by some incredible friends. Thank you Hilda for alerting us to this mama’s plight, it’s been our privilege to play a small role in helping her get the treatment she deserved and helping to reduce the health inequities that exist in developing nations.

Thank you to everyone who continues to collect bottles and cans for us. 410 bottles was all it took to help this mama out.

No trip to Tanzania is complete without a visit to see the amazing Hilda and beautiful children and Step by Step.

You would be hard pressed to find a more honest, caring and compassionate person than Hilda.

We were able to provide food for 3 families in great need. Women’s hygiene kits for girls and women in the local community.

Additionally we had the pleasure of filling the bellies of over 40 children who Hilda opens her doors to on a Saturday and we’re able to fund a new blender for Step by Step so that they can make juice for the children.

Today we had the pleasure of strengthening our partnership with our good friends at the Tunza Foundation.

As guardians of our environment they educate those within their community about the significant impact that both the environment and climate change can have on them.

We trained 30 people in first aid that were school teachers and members of the local village health committee.

We then visited Tunza’s nursery where they grow all sorts of fruit and vegetable plants that they donate to local schools or community organisations. We also had the opportunity to plant a tree with them as a sign of our partnership.

We could not do the work that we do in Tanzania without the incredible support we get from so many people including those who collect bottles and cans that allow us to purchase medications for those in need here.

Whilst you might not think that few bottles can make a difference, it can and does have a significant impact and we thought we should share exactly how.

We are acutely aware that we find ourselves in a unique position in which we can make a direct, meaningful and immediate impact on the health care needs of vulnerable populations in disadvantaged areas of Tanzania. With that comes a responsibility to honour and respect the privacy of those we assist. For that reason we won’t be disclosing the name nor the medical condition of this person.

Today we were able to purchase medication for a women who, for the past 4 months has been experiencing a serious medical condition. Her financial situation did not allow her to purchase the necessary medications.

But, 410 bottles and cans allowed us to purchase 7 medications for this woman, 4 of which will last her a month and 3 which will last her 3 months. This donation of medications not only allows her to treat her condition but also provides pain relief to manage ongoing pain.

To everyone who collects bottles and cans for us YOU made this happen and we can’t thank you enough for your support.

We had an amazing day teaching first aid to 60 mamas at Ematasia, a school in a rural area of Kisongo.

We are extremely grateful to our friends at Ematasia for introducing us to the beautiful people within their community. Ematasia is more than just a school. It’s a safe place for children and a shining example of what can be achieved when a community work towards a common goal.

The Mawingu Project do an amazing job supporting Ematasia and are definitely worth following.

It’s the wet season currently here in Tanzania and they have been experiencing one of their wettest seasons in many years. It has brought us many challenges with disruption to electricity and internet and destruction of roads in the area.

We have recently returned from 3 incredible days in Longido where the team achieved so many of our charities goals.

Our first day we visited our friends at the Longido health centre and Kimokowa dispensary with some much needed medications and supplies. All these photos were taken on the same day and shows how quickly the weather can change. They also show the differences in resources and the things we come across on our drive into these areas.
