Congratulations to Christopher Gerzina, MD, a traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon with Hendrick Clinic Bone and Joint, for recently leading a team in performing the region’s first Plate-Assisted Bone Segment Transport (PABST) with an internal magnetic lengthening nail surgery of the femur.

The goal of the procedure is to regenerate bone and for the patient to eventually walk again. You can read more about the surgery at hendrickhealth.org/news.

With the addition of Dr. Gerzina and fellow traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon Garrett Maxwell, MD, Hendrick Health has added advanced surgical procedures for patients who have sustained traumatic injuries in falls, vehicle crashes and construction site incidents.

Congratulations to Sandip Mathur, MD, right, gastroenterologist with Hendrick Clinic, for recently being inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians at its London headquarters.

To be eligible for this professional honor, the college requires candidates be nominated by an existing Fellow and show extensive evidence of pioneering clinical care, medical leadership or humanitarian impact. Dr. Mathur earned his Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1988, and only an estimated 10 – 15% of Members are elected as Fellows.
