Good morning from new to the crew Ranger!.Hope this brings you some joy this morning!
It’s so true though.I tried gardening when we lived in the city. But I fully believe that if you only partially do it, you will only partially take care of it. I would forget to water my container garden in West Texas Summer lol. I had no idea what I was doing.so when we moved to the country, I went all in with a huge garden on the same plot of land, where my grandfather gardened, when I was a child. this is our fourth summer to have a garden, and being in that space brings me so much joy and peace. that first summer we created a garden I was carrying our beautiful son through a wonderful pregnancy. I had no idea how much I would need this garden to bring me peace through the grief after we surprisingly lost our son at 40 weeks and one day. 🤰🏽👼🏽now, the garden is a place for us to work together as a team in our family. To work the ground, create something from scratch, and watch it grow and flourish. This year my children are asking for their own garden. They see the value in watching and raising your own food and enjoying such a beautiful bounty and harvest. i’ll continue to find my peace in the garden this summer. The garden keeps me grounded, slow, rhythmic, and so peaceful, and connected to my creator.
If you aren’t saving some of your potatoes to plant for next year…. Consider doing it this year! 🥔 When December rolled around, and all we had were tiny potatoes left from 2023’s harvest, and they were starting to sprout, we just stuck our crate in our dark shed until February when it was time to plant again! 🪴.All of these red potatoes are ones we grew last year! We were able to cut each eye off and plant them for this year!.Who else does this? 🥔 ..#zone8a #gardenhack #gardentips #gardening #potatoplanting #growingpotatoes
Sometimes February give a us an amazing spring day ! Where the sun blushes our shoulders (well except the darker ones of us ;-) )The dirt feels cool under our feet.We sweat more than we are used to.We dream of diving into a pool. And we burry root veggies beneath the earth. 🥔 .It’s just a little glimpse, and gives us hope that springs coming, things will grow again, and we will@most definitely sweat a lot more here in Texas! ☀️
I always save my #farmraised chicken bones and make bone broth. But I also don’t own a pressure canner..So they usually go in jars in the fridge. But when I get too much at once, here’s how I store my bone broth..Can easily be thawed to drink or cook with. Check out our friend @house.at.long.meadow for instructions on making your own bone broth! 🍖 ☕️
Every Friday we make Challah Bread for our Shabbat dinners! The recipe makes two loaves so a lot of times our second loaf is breakfast Saturday, or I turn it into cinnamon rolls for Saturday..But almost every Friday my daughter asked for a tiny ball of the dough to play with. Many times she has made her own tiny cinnamon roll that we microwave and she eats lol. .This Friday, though she surprised me and made the tiniest loaf of bread braided with four strands, which is super impressive! .Never underestimate what your kids are learning beside you!And always let them play with their food, they might create something amazing!
A little peek 👀 into our morning routine from the homestead kitchen.Making a planned breakfast has been so helpful for us and the kids. We know what to be prepared for, and they know what to expect to eat.Especially when we #homeschool and cook 3 meals a day at home. Makes it easier for everyone....#homesteadfamily #homeschoolfamily #homesteadkitchen #homesteadcooking #homesteadmeal #homesteadplanning #homeschoolcafeteria #homesteadmamas

Have you planted yours yet?
Everybody over here wanting FREE RANGE CHICKEN EGGSS…..
Well do you know what that means for us?
Poop everywhere.
Coops that are being abandoned.
Chickens annoyingly joining us for morning coffee.
Oh and an Easter EGG 🥚 🧺 hunt everyday just to feed our family breakfast!
.
lol it’s real life on the homestead though.
Btw, if you’re building a new coop for the spring, check out YouTube where we toured multiple types of coops, in the country, in neighborhoods, etc!

Anyone else have crazy free ranging chickens? 🐓
Morning on the homestead! Everyone’s ready for breakfast! 🍽️
We can easily make enough money from our homestead each month to pay most of our home bills, but definitely our feed bills 🐄 🐐 🐓, and that is a blessing.
Here’s 10 creative ways to make $$ on your homestead in the winter:
1) sale bread
2) sale other handmade items: wooden utensils, canned goods, soaps, lotions, etc.
3) sale your sourdough starter
4) sale seeds you’ve saved
5) take orders for spring plant starts, put together a kitchen garden package, and sale a flat of veggies for someone to plant in a kitchen garden once April/May hits (but take pre-orders for them in winter)
6) teach a class: chicken butchering, how to seed start, sourdough bread making, canning, soap making, the list goes on…. Think of a skill you have and had to learn at one time, teach others!
7) sale products through a REKO Ring (online farmers market)
8) Create a digital product and sale it: a garden calendar for your zone, a how-to book, a small cookbook, etc.
9) sale eggs
10) breed dogs
.
What other ways have you made money in the winter?

We’ve had this girl for about a year now. We named her Hot Cocoa ☕️ 🍫, but her name soon got changed to Ribeye after we chased her all over the neighborhood one too many times. She was a sneaky young thing!
Proud of this homestead dinner
