Grateful for this thoughtful feedback from participants who joined Introduction to Fostering Culture & Soil of GRIT™.

What stood out most to me was the reminder that we often approach youth through our own cultural lens without taking the time to truly understand theirs. When that happens, collaboration breaks down and resilience is expected without support.

This is exactly why the next session in the series focuses on Invisible Disabilities, Trauma Responses, and the Soil of GRIT™. We will go deeper into how trauma, stigma, and invisible needs show up in behavior, and how professionals can shift from mislabeling and control toward care, healing, and agency.

Thankful for spaces where honesty, vulnerability, and learning are possible. Looking forward to continuing this work together.

I’m excited to announce an upcoming virtual professional development course designed for child welfare professionals who want to move beyond deficit-based interpretations of behavior and toward culturally grounded, healing-centered practice.

Invisible Disabilities, Trauma Responses, and the Soil of GRIT™: Supporting Healing and Agency in Child Welfare Practice equips practitioners to better understand how trauma, cultural stigma, and poverty shape youth behavior, especially when disabilities and mental health needs are not immediately visible.

This session centers the Healing and Agency components of the Soil of GRIT™ Framework and focuses on:

● Distinguishing trauma responses from mental health crises

● Understanding how mislabeling survival behaviors escalates harm

●Moving from compliance and control toward care and support

●Expanding how we think about safety, choice, and culturally responsive intervention

This professional development session is designed for professionals working directly with system-involved youth and families who want practical tools, reflective space, and a deeper understanding of how resilience actually grows.

Missed the first Introduction to Fostering Culture & Soil of GRIT™ session?
You still have two opportunities to attend this foundational training for child welfare and youth-serving professionals.

This session introduces a culturally grounded, healing-centered approach to understanding youth behavior, identity, belonging, and resilience through the Soil of GRIT™ Framework.

If you work with youth who are often misunderstood, over-disciplined, or disengaged, this session will help you:
> Understand how culture shapes identity, safety, and engagement
> Recognize how cultural disruption impacts placement stability and behavior
> Apply Hope, Agency, Purpose, & Healing as practice foundations, not abstract concepts
> Shift from deficit-based interpretations toward culturally responsive support

Upcoming session options:
📅 February 3, 2026 | 12:00–1:00 PM EST
📅 February 12, 2026 | 2:00–3:00 PM EST
Both sessions are virtual and open to individual practitioners and teams.

I developed the Soil of GRIT™ Framework because I saw how often culture was ignored as a protective factor in child welfare.

As a former foster youth and consultant working across systems, I know resilience does not live inside individuals alone.

It grows when identity is honored, agency is supported, and healing is possible.

🗓 January 20 | 12–1 PM EST
💲 $20
