“Burn ABQ West came into my life when I needed it the most, I just didn’t realize it at the time. In the summer of 2022, I was coming out of the fog of the toughest year of my life, unexpectedly losing my Grandma, my Mom, and my Uncle all within 6 months of each other, and my husband became extremely ill in the middle of that timeframe. I wasn’t sure he would make it through, and neither were his doctors (thankfully, he had a truly miraculous recovery!). I was struggling with severe undiagnosed depression and anxiety, and really trying to find myself again. While I was overweight for my “comfort zone”, I hadn’t hit my highest weight yet. My best friend brought up Burn after she had gone to a few camps. Neither of us were “gym people”. we were adamant that it just wasn’t for us. If she gave it a shot and kept going back, I knew I had to as well. While I did not see changes in my body, nor the scale as quickly as I would have liked back then, Burn provided me something I truly needed: Time for myself, a consistent schedule, and the confidence to know that I could do hard things. I began showing up on a regular basis, for myself. During the next few years I just kept showing up. I would be consistent in the gym, but not in the kitchen, or vice versa. What WAS consistent was showing up. Finally, during the summer of 2024 I really hit a wall. That was when I hit my highest weight ever. My doctor was mentioning things like “blood pressure medicine” and “keeping on eye on my A1C… prediabetes” etc. I knew I needed to buckle down and use my support system. Working closely with my doctor for both my physical AND my mental health, being consistent in booking focus meetings, and accepting the push from trainers, my Burn fam, and trusting myself, I finally started to see the changes I had been too scared to follow through with in the past. The number on the scale has gone down 60 pounds. ALL of my blood work is in the “green”. I’m down almost 3 pants sizes...
