Success.

I've been thinking about it a lot lately.

More specifically, what success means to me.

Because from an outsiders perspective, I may not seem successful.

Hell, if you could ask the 20 something version of me, I myself would probably even think that success has eluded me.

My car is basic.

My home is like 140 years old (not exaggerating).

I don't have a lot of followers.

I don't travel very often.

I rarely eat fancy meals.

My daily attire consists of gym shorts and a t-shirt.

I'm typically at school or sporting events this time of year.

There's not much about the way I live my life that's overly excited or screams, "Hey, this girl is living the dream!"

But here's the truth...

I am, in fact, living the dream.

My job is fulfilling in a way I could never imagine. I truly have the best clients that bring me so much joy. They are my people.

My body is healthy and strong. At 39 years old, there isn't a single thing that I feel like I couldn't do.

My life is flexible to the point that I don't have to miss a single thing my kids want me to be at. Field trips, class parties, ball games. If they ask me to be there, I'm there.

My husband is a true partner, and we've really found a balance with our lives.

My house, car, and clothes all serve their purpose, and I don't put a lot of stock in whether or not they are good enough.

I have the privilege of buying food that's healthy and helps me hit my goals.

If I could ever decide what color to paint this bathroom, I could go get it right now 😅

To put it simply, I'm at peace.

I love what I do.

I love who I have.

I love what I have.

I love how I live.

And to me...

I am not sure there's any way to be more successful than that 🫶

Oh, heyyyyyy 👋

I feel like now is a good time to tell you that you can do some workouts for $20/month with yours truly 😛 💪

Or if you also need nutrition, we got that, too!

See you soon!

A while back Em was sitting on my lap, and she asked me why I had rolls on my belly (aka loose skin)...

I told her because my belly stretched out when I was pregnant with her and her brother.

She then asked me, "Do you want it gone?"

I answered, "No."

Em asked, "Because you like it?"

"Because it doesn't matter to me at all." I said truthfully.

And as a girl who wore a t-shirt over her swimsuit in the 8th grade...

As a teen who wore a padded bra under her sports bra in high school...

As a woman who wore shapewear in her 20s to hide her "belly"...

It felt so damn good to say those words as a mother and absolutely mean them from the bottom of my heart.

It felt freeing to talk to my daughter in a way that shows that we do not have to have strong feelings about aspects of our body that others say we should hate.

It felt healing to break generational negative self-consciousness.

It felt incredible to look my daughter in the eye and let her know that her body is the least interesting thing about her.

It can be different for the next generation, friends.

But it starts with us.

We can be the example.

We can build strength.

We can build confidence.

We can show up as our "flawed" selves.

Because we're teaching them what matters and what doesn't.

And having a body that is less than perfect by societal standards truly does not matter at all.

At 20, my greatest fear was to gain weight.

At 30, my greatest fear was to never again look like I did in my 20s.

But as I'm creeping up on my 40s, I realize that my greatest fear is to feel incapable as I age.

So I'm going to keep doing all the things that allow me to keep doing this (lifting, mobility, sleeping, cardio, and fueling my body properly).

Because hell if I give a s**t if I have a lower belly pooch or cellulite...

THIS lifestyle will always be the end goal for me.

I had the most friends when I was the worst version of myself...

When I blacked out from drinking alcohol multiple times a week.

When I ate like s**t.

When I lost hours a day to the couch.

When I talked to myself like s**t...

Why?

I don't know for certain, but I would guess that it's because my lack of boundaries allowed people to get what they wanted from me.

My lack of self confidence allowed others to use me.

My lack of self-worth allowed other people to not have to question their own.

My decisions to not go after anything or push myself allowed others to sit in their own mediocrity.

So yea, my circles are smaller now.

I don't have plans every weekend.

My alcohol consumption is pretty low these days.

Im not sure what a lot of the people I used to hang out with are up to.

Maybe they eventually changed their lives, too?

I hope so. That would be awesome.

But what I do know is...

I refuse to shrink into a version of me that makes others comfortable at the expense of being the person I know I can be.

And you shouldn't either, friend.

It's not wild or exciting over here, but damn is it peaceful and healthy 🫶

In the past, before I'd commit to anything challenging, I would do extensive research on what it would take to achieve said goal.

"I don't want to bite off more than I can chew..", I'd think.

So, I'd look up nutrition and figure out exactly what I would need to eat. I really didn't want to change how I ate.

And then I'd look up the training to see just how difficult that would be.

And what type of training exactly? Was it going to be TOO uncomfortable for me?

And if I had to cut back on drinking? Well, that wasn't likely to happen. I don't want to give up my life.

And then lastly I'd weigh out the opinions of the people around me...

Would they think it's stupid?

Or would they think I was trying to be a show off?

I'd get to the end of my research and tell myself, "Absolutely not. It's definitely more than I can chew."

I'd toss that idea to the side, bummed about another challenge or goal that was not meant for me.

But one day something clicked...

I realized that EVERYTHING I wanted was on the other side of the s**t that was "more than I could chew."

The business I wanted to start.

The strength I wanted to have.

The way I wanted to feel.

The life I wanted to live.

So, I switched my mindset from needing to know every single detail that would eventually lead to overwhelm, and I just tried to understand what my first couple steps were to start...

And then... I'd just get started.

I'd get uncomfortable and then I'd figure it out.

I'd fail over and over and over again.

But I'd learn along the way.

And it turns out that you can actually achieve way more than what your brain will tell you is possible...

All you have to do is bite off more than you can chew, and then learn how to chew it.

I'm going to be 40 within the next year.

In about 7 months, actually.

And inching towards that age has me thinking back over last decade of my life.

A decade that had some of my strongest, healthiest, and best days to date.

And if I would have listened to the chatter around me in my late 20s, I would have believed that my body was about ready to go to s**t...

I would have believed that my strongest and best days were behind me...

I would have believed that it was time to give up on any dreams of ever being strong or fit or achieving anything cool...

But let me tell you friend, that's all garbage.

That's a lie people tell you to because they want you to show up a specific way...

And that "way" is the way they show up because it keeps them comfortable.

It's not too late.

You're not too old, or weak, or too far gone.

You actually could be just getting started.

Don't forget...

You don't get out of shape because you get older.

You FEEL older because you get out of shape.

And let me tell you, I work with some of the youngest 40, 50, 60, and 70 year olds I've ever known 🫶
