Bees of the Woods Apiary

Bees of the Woods Apiary Bees of the Woods Apiary is a locally owned apiary that produces local raw honey. Bees of the Woods Apiary is run by Keith Freeman and Jennifer Ford.

We have been keeping bees since 2008 - starting with two, and working our way up to 16. Our apiary is chemical-free, we use only essential oils to keep our hives healthy.

Spring is here and bees are excited.

If you or anyone you know is in need of a couple of hives, we may have just what you’re looking for! We currently have two hives, both with overwintered queens, available. Here’s how it works:

You would need to drop off hive equipment consisting of a bottom board, two medium hive bodies, inner & outer cover, and an entrance closure per hive.

We will move eighteen medium frames (nine per box) containing eggs, larvae, capped brood, pollen, honey, and of course, a queen into your equipment.

We will contact you to setup a day and time (early morning or late evening) to come and take your new hive (or hives) to their new home.

If you are interested please email us at [email protected]. We will respond in a day or two. Please keep an eye on your junk/spam mail folder if you do not hear from us in a couple of days.

Our dining room, now extracting room, contains 15 sticky honey supers, 135 sticky honey frames, a sticky uncapping tank complete with a sticky uncapping plane, a really sticky extractor, four sticky honey screens, and ten full & sticky 5 gallon buckets of honey!

Oh, and we won’t even fill you in on the status of the dining room table and floor... but we bet you can guess! 🤣

We set up some "swarm traps" this year, hoping that any swarms of bees looking for a home might move in. And they did! Today we moved them from the small box to a hive. Unfortunately they had already built comb hanging down from the lid, so we had to cut that off and tie it in empty frames. They seem happy with the new home, though!

Yesterday afternoon one of our hives swarmed. We went out very early this morning to get them out of the tree before it warmed up! We'll post some of the video we took later.
