Lunch with two fellow alumnae of my medical school, and fellow mom docs.
We all went into medicine to help people. We all became moms along the way. And after about a decade, each of us made the same quiet, brave decision: to care for patients on our own terms.
That means time. Time to listen. Time to think. Time to hand-pick the specialists we send our patients to, because a referral should feel like an introduction to someone we trust, not a name on a list.
What moved me most today was hearing how much they think about their patients when no one is watching. The phone calls, the follow-ups, the behind-the-scenes work of building relationships that make someone feel truly cared for.
Something beautiful happens when a doctor is in a good place. When the system isn’t telling her how to practice, she gets to do what she trained for: listen, then do what’s best for the person in front of her.
Mom doctoring, to me, is the same instinct we bring home. Notice. Anticipate. Show up. Make sure no one falls through the cracks.
Grateful to be on this journey with you, ladies. 🥂
Ps. They are soooo organized and typeA 🥰😂
