PMDD is more than “bad PMS.”

If you notice that anxiety, depression, irritability, overwhelm, intrusive thoughts, or feeling completely unlike yourself become significantly worse in the week or two before your period—and then improve after your period begins—that pattern matters.

PMDD can have a profound impact on relationships, work, parenting, and how you feel about yourself. And too many women spend years thinking they just need to “handle it better.”

You don’t.

PMDD is a real, treatable condition, and treatment doesn’t have to look exactly the same for every woman. Medication, hormonal considerations, lifestyle factors, sleep, nutrition, stress, and other integrative approaches may all be part of the conversation.

Tracking your symptoms across your menstrual cycle can be one of the most helpful first steps.

If you’re in Utah and looking for psychiatric care that considers the whole picture, I’m accepting new patients at Ischys Integrative Mental Wellness.

ADHD isn’t always “I got distracted.”

Sometimes it looks like this:

I want to record a video → but I should probably put on makeup → and if I’m doing makeup, I should do my hair → then I need to record → edit → caption → post…

And suddenly I’ve done NONE of it. 😅

Even after taking my ADHD medication.

That’s something we don’t talk about enough: task initiation.

Your brain can turn one simple task into a chain of 10 smaller tasks—and sometimes just thinking about all those steps is enough to keep you from starting.

So what can help?

• Make the first step ridiculously small. Not “make the video.” Just “press record.”
• Remove steps that aren’t actually necessary.
• Decide ahead of time what “good enough” looks like.
• Try a 5-minute timer—you only have to start.
• Reduce decisions by using the same place, setup, or routine.
• Add stimulation to boring tasks with music, movement, or a small reward.
• Remember that ADHD medication can help significantly without making every executive-function challenge disappear.

Today I removed two steps: no makeup and no doing my hair.

And guess what?

I finally pressed record.

Sometimes we don’t need to try harder.

We need fewer steps between us and the starting line.

What is something you KNOW you need to do, but your brain keeps making it ridiculously difficult to start? Tell me in the comments—I may make a video about it.

📍 UTAH: I’m a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner accepting new patients in Utah. I offer a whole-person approach to ADHD and other mental health concerns, including medication management and integrative options when appropriate.

Behind every mental health diagnosis is a story that most people never see.

Sometimes the strongest people are carrying the heaviest grief.

Sometimes the person who’s always smiling is simply surviving.

This reel explains why my approach to psychiatry is different—and why listening will always come before judging.

If this resonates with you, leave a ❤️ or tell me one thing that’s helped you find hope. Your story may encourage someone else today.

One of the hardest moments for patients is when they say:
“Nothing is helping anymore.”

Usually it’s not because they haven’t tried.
It’s because they’ve tried everything.

Medication.
Therapy.
Supplements.
Self-help.
Pushing harder.
Ignoring it.

And after enough disappointment, people stop feeling hopeful.

One thing I’ve learned in psychiatry is this:
People are more complex than a checklist.

Sometimes what’s needed is slowing down long enough to understand the full picture:
• Sleep
• Stress load
• Trauma
• Hormones
• Nervous system patterns
• Medical contributors
• Lifestyle
• Relationships
• Medication response history

You deserve care that feels thoughtful—not rushed.

One of the hardest parts of starting mental health treatment is that many people feel pressure to “get better quickly.”

But mental health care is rarely linear.

Sometimes treatment involves learning how your nervous system responds to stress, recognizing patterns, making thoughtful adjustments, improving sleep and regulation, addressing underlying contributors, and building a plan that actually fits your life.

Patients deserve to feel heard during that process.

That’s one reason I value collaborative and individualized care in my practice.

Mental health care should feel thoughtful—not rushed.

Many people spend years feeling unheard, cycling through symptoms without anyone stepping back to ask bigger questions about stress, nervous system function, burnout, sleep, emotional overload, or other underlying contributors.

That’s one reason I take a more integrative and individualized approach in my practice.

Sometimes the most important part of an evaluation is not just hearing symptoms—it’s recognizing patterns.

Alpha-Stim is a noninvasive device designed to support nervous system regulation through gentle cranial electrotherapy stimulation.

For some people, it may be a helpful addition alongside therapy, lifestyle changes, and other treatment approaches as part of a more complete mental health plan.

When the nervous system has been stuck in “fight or flight” for long periods of time, treatment sometimes needs to go beyond just managing thoughts.
