“Fuel Your Body Right: Build a Balanced Plate with Colorful Veggies, Lean Proteins, Whole Grains, and Healthy Fats!” 🌱🥗💪

Building a healthy plate involves balancing nutrients to nourish your body effectively. Start by filling half your plate with colorful vegetables and fruits, which provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Allocate a quarter of the plate to lean proteins like chicken, fish, beans, or tofu to support muscle growth and repair.

The remaining quarter should consist of whole grains such as quinoa, brown rice, or whole wheat pasta to supply sustained energy and dietary fiber.

As the summer approaches, lets take away some healthful tips to help you stay on track and help manage your weight.

Mindful Eating:
Practicing mindful eating can help overindulging. Eat slowly and limit distractions while eating
Portion Control:
Enjoy the day without feeling deprived. Use smaller plates that allows for better portion control
Fill up on fiber:
Filling up on fiber rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains will help fill you up and satisfy hunger
Don’t Skip Meals:
Skipping meals earlier in the day may cause you to overeat at dinner
Maintain an Exercise Routine:
Aim for 30-60 minutes of physical activity each day. A brisk walk after dinner is a great way to incorporate physical activity while spending time with the family. ..................................................................................................................................

Vitamin D deficiency is a common issue for many. Studies consistently show that African Americans have a higher prevalence of vitamin D deficiency compared to other racial groups, with some research indicating that over 80% of black adults have low vitamin D.

Vitamin D can be obtained from sun exposure, food sources and supplements.

The main functions of vitamin D are bone metabolism, calcium homeostasis and expression of genes.

Individuals with dark skin tone, those who wear protective or have limited sun exposure are at risk for deficiency.

Bone pain, fatigue and depression are some of the side effects of low vitamin D levels. It’s important to get your levels checked regularly and supplementing as needed.
