We knew it was coming.

Western Medicine is not tracking events like these. We, who are, are stumbling across people whose health have taken negative turns after blood transfusions. Not included in this article are the cases of "turbo cancers" post transfusion we are also hearing about.

The most telltale sign? specifically "white fibrous clots".

This is one reason why direct donor blood matters (there are many reasons to insist upon it though), it's the reason for our 🩸BBHB 🩸mission.

Respect and honoring of a patient’s autonomy is foundational in patient centered medicine and a cornerstone of Clinical Ethics. Clinical Ethics has been codified in most physician and medical organizations, but the codes often appear to protect the profession’s (or industry) interests more than to offer a broad and impartial viewpoint or to address issues of importance to patients and society. In other words, protection of profit and professional interests often supersede patient care.

Wasting unused blood is driven by corporate policy, not federal regulations. Not every blood bank chooses to do this. While some blood banks do have the wasteful policy of discarding unused direct donor blood, other blood banks have opted to add any unused blood into the anonymous donor supply for use in another patient. Additionally, expired or “unusable” blood is frequently sold for research use.

Direct donors typically are people who have a physical, emotional, or community connection with the recipient in need. From our Blessed By His Blood experiences in matching blood donors within our community alone, we have found that overwhelmingly, direct donors often have never given blood or have rarely given blood, but are more than willing to donate when asked to donate for a specific person. This only ADDS to the blood supply, leaving anonymous donor bags on the shelf for the next person in need. At a time when overall blood donation is down by over 30% (a statistic the blood industry has reported with urgency repeatedly), shouldn't the blood industry be welcoming EVERY donation instead of working to limit blood donations to anonymous only?
