When one of your favorite artists writes a song more relevant to you than anyone could know…in a completely opposite way than it’s meant to be… or is it? 33🧐

I think I avoided angel lore for a long time after I watched my mother die young. She turned to the angels after seeing them and was convinced they were there to help her cross over. I rejected a lot of the mythology from my childhood after she left us and sought the stories and lore from elsewhere.

But they come up. All over history. All over the world, conspiracy, secret societies, government, architecture, at the cross roads…

Wresting them angels for a lifetime…

One of the special things I get to do on this earth is watch the full moon rise from the top of the blue ridge mountIans every month. I take the practice with me when I travel too.

Today Im homeschooling my grand-little and we’re learning about the phases of the moon by making our own watercolor cards. We’ll take our binoculars up to the highest hill tonight.

Where will you view the harvest moon from tonight?

Not to be confused with mazes, labyrinths have only one path in, to the center, and then back out but are created in several different styles. They have been used for thousands of years in numerous places around the world. The most famous, in ancient Crete, was built to hold the minotaur of ancient Greek myth. During the medieval times, churches began creating labyrinths as a walking meditation, for spiritual reflection and a way to connect to God. They took the place of pilgrimages for those who couldn’t make the long journeys.

You can find most labyrinths today in peaceful church yards, available for public use.

California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)
Is a part of every calming tea or smoke blend that I make. They contain no o***m but instead work on your GABA receptors relieving anxiety and promoting restful sleep.
These happy little flowers are super easy to grow in zones 3-10.

There is so much wonder in this world. We have been desensitized in so many ways. Our moments filled with things to accomplish.
Have you seen the delicate beauty of the flower outside your door? The way the blossoms follow the sunlight? How the pollen clings to the honeybee to be dispersed throughout the local gardens? The colors reflected in it’s wings?

Much of my spring has been spent wandering the forests. I’ve been getting to know the native plants and flowers on a deeper level; learning their stories and secrets. Paper journals are being filled and the time to share draws near.

The gardens here at the cottage are in bloom with roses and peonies taking the stage at the moment. Comfrey’s little purple bells are feeding the honeybees and the first forget me not just opened her tiny blue petals.

What’s to come? We shall see. Adult life for me was packed full of hustling and bustling and filled with many traumatizing struggles and losses. Ive been navigating the path of healing, integrating, and carrying on for a couple of years now and this what Id like to bring to others. Refocusing my product line to support healing from trauma. Of all kinds.

Stay tuned.

THE SIREN OF THE FRENCH BROAD
$40

Made with 100% sheep wool

Refined this piece a bit and now it’s back on the marker. The first in my local legends of the land series.

Among the waters of one of the oldest rivers in the world, The French Broad, near Asheville, North Carolina, lives the immortal river siren. We do not know how long this has been her abode but the Cherokee warned of her ling ago.

It is said that If one who is weary or in despair sits beside the waters or utters a wish to leave this world, they will begin to hear a soft and exquisite music blending with the lapping of the waves.
The siren would slowly appear and seduce them into her arms with her song, before drowning them in the cold waters below.

In the 1840’s an epic poem was written about her by William Gilmore Simms called The Syren of the Tselica; A Tradition of the French Broad. You can hear a piece of it in my short video posted on my page and youtube channel.

Id been looking for her in the wilds all spring. Dwarf crested iris. One of the native irises of our lands, all of which have become rare.
A ephemeral, blooming for only a week or two, then gone, until next year’s spring.
Named after the greek goddess of the rainbow, this little iris had eluded me, fading from the lower forestlands as time crept on as it always seems to do.

And so we took to the highlands to search for colors of a different nature, rubies and sapphires and the wondrous stones buried within our mountain home. As we wandered and scoured, i looked over and caught his secret smile. And it was then that he took my hand and led me to the last little iris of spring.

Life in this dimension is strange. Time is even stranger; a trap of sorts, the bars of the cage. But i couldnt imagine stepping out of this natural cycle where the wheel turns more gracefully, with the sun, moon, stars and flowers marking its progression as opposed to their clocks and calendars.

Have you noticed? The desertion of humans from the web of life.

Valley of Midnight
$40

5.5 in x 7.5 in

Ive been having my morning coffee with the birds as usual and a book of mary oliver poems from the library. (Thanks to my friend and housmate for the inspiration)

This piece was inspired by her poem, An Old Story and those sleepless nights of my own, by our little mountain lake, falling in love with the delicate flowers of spring.

…
Sleep comes its little while. Then I wake
in the valley of midnight or three a.m.
to the first fragrances of spring

which is coming, all by itself, no matter what.
My heart says, what you thought you have you do not have.
My body says, will this pounding ever stop?

My heart says: there, there, be a good student.
My body says: let me up and out, I want to fo**le
those soft white flowers, open in the night.
