I quit my job to start a forest scent company. Now my hands are covered in pine sap, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

We make pure essential oils from wild harvested evergreens. It is an incredibly inefficient process and requires A LOT of sweat equity. But doing the heavy lifting ourselves allows us to capture the living chemistry (and aroma!) of these forests in an authentic way.

Most commercial pine products smell like a cheap air freshener.

If you want a scent that actually smells like the forest, you have to do things the hard way. Every product we make is scented exclusively with essential oils that we distill ourselves from wild Pacific Northwest evergreens. The process is entirely inefficient. Most people have a very specific idea of what cedar smells like.

What you find in big box store candles is usually a generic, commercially produced scent that smells more like a hardware store than an actual forest.

Incense cedar is entirely different. While it is not botanically a true cedar, it produces one of the most incredible and complex scents in the Pacific Northwest. Its fresh boughs have a warm, rich, and incredibly spicy profile that is unique to the living tree.

We selectively harvest and distill these fresh tips to capture that exact scent.

I get a lot of questions about how to use the hydrosols that come free with new orders from Rogue Evergreens.

My personal favorite way is just like this. When you are out working in the heat and covered in sap & dust, there is nothing better than a pure forest refresh.

But a lot of folks also use them daily as a natural facial toner or an aftershave. It is a great way to tighten your skin without using drying alcohols or synthetic fragrances.

The Pacific yew completely revolutionized cancer treatment in the 1960s. Its bark contains Taxol, a powerful compound that prevents cancer cells from replicating.

Early on, harvesting it was highly destructive. It required the bark of a whole tree to yield just one dose, and removing that bark is fatal to the yew. Today, the medical industry creates the drug in a lab without needing to strip wild trees.

This species highlights the incredibly complex chemistry at work out in the woods. It is a perfect example of why the tallest trees in the canopy do not always hold the most value.

The Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion is incredibly special.

As a forester, one of the things I love most about working out here is the sheer number of conifer species you'll come across. It’s actually one of the most diverse conifer forests in the world. You can literally stand in one spot and point out a dozen different species without even moving your feet.

That natural complexity is exactly what makes the woods around here smell so distinct, and it's a big part of why I do what I do.

Yes, I started Rogue Evergreens out of spite. 😂🌲

As a forester who has spent most of my life working with trees, I was completely fed up with products that claimed to smell like pine, cedar, spruce, or fir, but smelled absolutely nothing like the real thing.

I know what the forest actually smells like. So, when I couldn't find a product that authentically captured it, I decided to make my own.
