🦋 Talk About It Tuesday!

“You don’t look like what you’ve been through!” 🙌🏽

What a beautiful reminder that our past does not have to define our future! We’ve all experienced things that could have broken us, but look at us… still standing, still growing, and still becoming!

The beauty of not looking like what you’ve been through is recognizing that God gives us a new day, not to relive yesterday, but to do something different with tomorrow.

Your past is part of your story, but it doesn’t have to determine how the story ends. Give yourself permission to turn the page! 🦋💜

🦋 Talk about it Tuesday 🦋

Sometimes healing requires a change of environment.

You can’t keep asking yourself to heal while remaining in a space that continues to wound you. And leaving the environment doesn’t always mean leaving the person—sometimes it means leaving the pattern, setting boundaries, limiting access, and choosing yourself.

There’s a difference between healing from what happened to you and learning to tolerate what keeps happening to you.

Something has to change. 💜

🦋 TALK ABOUT IT TUESDAY

Everybody in your life doesn’t deserve VIP access to you.

Part of navigating healthy friendships is knowing when to promote…and when to DEMOTE. 👀

Pay attention to how people handle the access you give them. Do they celebrate you or compete with you? Protect what you share or repeat it? Pour into you or drain you?

And remember—history does not equal entitlement. Just because we’ve been friends for 20 years doesn’t mean you automatically get a front-row seat in this season of my life.

You don’t always have to cut people off. Sometimes you just need to change their seat. 💺

Because everybody can’t be VIP. Some folks belong in general admission. 🤷🏾‍♀️😂

Let’s Talk About It! 🦋

📣 TALK ABOUT IT TUESDAY: Are We Valuing the Friendship…or the Social Experience?

Social media has changed the way we connect—but has it also changed what we value about friendship?

Sometimes, we become so focused on who shows up for the pictures, the parties, the trips, the brunches, and the posts that we forget to ask a more important question: Do I actually value this person—or do I value what we do together?

There’s a difference between social compatibility and genuine connection.

A meaningful friendship isn’t measured by how often someone appears on your timeline. It’s found in the things that may never make it to social media: trust, reciprocity, emotional safety, authenticity, support, and the ability to simply be with one another.

Because when the outings stop, the pictures aren’t being taken, and there’s nothing to post… is there still a friendship worth having?

This week on Talk About It Tuesday, we’re talking about getting back to the intrinsic value of the person—not just the social value of the relationship.

🦋 Value the person, not just the experience they provide.

🦋 TALK ABOUT IT TUESDAY: Is the Friendship Genuine?

Not everyone who calls you a friend is navigating the friendship with genuine intentions.

Healthy friendships should feel like a place where you can grow, celebrate, evolve, and be fully yourself—without constantly questioning the other person’s motives.

Sometimes, though, we overlook behaviors that tell us the friendship may not be as authentic as we thought.

Pay attention to:

✨ Competition — Everything doesn’t have to be a comparison. A real friend can celebrate your win without feeling like it diminishes theirs.

✨ Gatekeeping — Genuine friends don’t intentionally withhold information, opportunities, resources, or connections simply because they don’t want to see you advance.

✨ Monitoring spirits — There’s a difference between someone being interested in your life and someone constantly watching, tracking, comparing, and collecting information without genuinely supporting you.

✨ Lack of growth — Friendships should be able to evolve. If one person grows and the relationship requires them to stay who they used to be in order to remain connected, eventually the friendship becomes restrictive.

And here’s the important part: before pointing the finger, check yourself too. Are you showing up as the kind of friend you expect others to be?

Authentic friendship isn’t about perfection. It’s about mutual respect, reciprocity, genuine support, honesty, and the freedom for BOTH people to grow.

Some friendships need a conversation.
Some need new boundaries.
And some have simply completed their season.

The goal isn’t to have the most friends.
The goal is to have friendships where you don’t have to question whether the love is genuine.

✨ Stop shrinking yourself to fit into friendships.

If you feel like you have to dim your light, downplay your accomplishments, hide your happiness, or become a smaller version of yourself just to keep a friend comfortable…you may need to reconsider the friendship.

A true friend doesn’t need you to lose in order for them to feel like they’re winning.

Friendship should be a safe place to celebrate each other. Your wins shouldn’t create tension. Your growth shouldn’t require an apology. And you shouldn’t have to carefully decide how much good news you can share because you’re worried about how your friend will receive it.

Someone who genuinely loves you can say, “I’m proud of you,” even when they’re still waiting for their own breakthrough.

And friendship requires acceptance, too. You should be able to show up as your full, authentic self—not the edited version that makes someone else feel more secure.

So pay attention to the friendships that require you to shrink.

You can’t build a genuine friendship while pretending to be less than who you are.

The right people won’t ask you to dim your light.

They’ll clap when you shine. 🦋✨

Talk About It Tuesday: Reciprocity in Friendship

One of the most important ingredients in friendship is reciprocity.

Because when reciprocity is missing, friendship stops feeling safe.

You start asking yourself questions you shouldn’t have to ask all the time:
Do they value me the way I value them?
Would they show up for me the way I show up for them?
If I stopped reaching out, would we even have a friendship?

And that kind of uncertainty is exhausting.

Friendship was never meant to be one person constantly pouring while the other person simply holds out their cup.

But before you start taking inventory of everything your friend isn’t doing, do something harder: check yourself first.

How do you show up?
Do you initiate? Do you check in? Do you celebrate them? Do you make space for their hard days—or only expect them to make space for yours?

Sometimes the friendship is unbalanced because of them.
And sometimes… we’re the imbalance.

Healthy friendship isn’t about keeping score or making sure everything is 50/50 every single day. Life happens. Sometimes one person will need more. But over time, there should be a mutual exchange of care, effort, consideration, support and presence.

The goal isn’t to keep score.

The goal is to make sure we’re filling EACH OTHER’S cup. 🦋
