The Emory Goizueta Brain Health Institute was honored to participate in the inaugural Atlanta Korean Senior Welfare Forum, hosted by the Atlanta Korean American Senior Association (AKASA) last Friday.

This important program addressed the challenges many Korean American older adults face in accessing healthcare, social services, housing, transportation, government assistance, and other essential resources due to language and cultural barriers.

Representing the Institute, Dr. James Lah, shared valuable information on brain health, healthy aging, Alzheimer's disease, and related dementias. Through community partnerships like this, we are working to make brain health information more accessible, and inclusive for the diverse communities across Georgia.

We applaud AKASA for its leadership in advancing education, awareness, and support for the Korean American senior community.

🧠 About our speaker:

Stephanie Wilson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she directs the Study of Health, Aging, and Relationships (SHARE) lab. Her research integrates perspectives from psychoneuroimmunology, adult development, and relationship science to understand how close relationships shape healthy aging.

Using ecological, lab-based, and survey methods, her work examines how social-emotional dynamics in couples’ relationships and care partnerships get under the skin through immune and cardiovascular pathways to ultimately impact function and quality of life.

Dr. Wilson’s research has been funded by the National Institute on Aging, and her contributions have been recognized with the PsychoNeuroImmunology Research Society’s Robert Ader New Investigator Award and the Association for Psychological Science’s Rising Star Award.

Her work has been published in respected journals such as Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, Psychological Science, and Psychoneuroendocrinology, as well as featured in popular press outlets such as Psychology Today and The New York Times.
