L'Arche Atlanta We are people, with and without developmental disabilities, sharing life in communities of faith.

L'Arche Atlanta is an Atlanta-based nonprofit that supports adults with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD). In the L'Arche Atlanta community, people with IDD (whom we call Core Members) are not clients, patients, or recipients of services. Instead, they are friends, teachers, and companions, who, through daily acts of care, trust, and friendship, develop into ambassadors of compassion

and leaders for social change. L'Arche Atlanta launched its first house in 2012 in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur and is now one of over 150 global communities in the International Federation of L'Arche. L'Arche was founded in 1964 as a response to the mass institutionalization of people with intellectual disabilities and has since spread to over 140 communities in 35 countries. For over 50 years, L’Arche has brought about a revolution in quality of life for people who have developmental disabilities.

About the event: "We invite adults of all ages who identify as disabled or neurodivergent to join us along with their friends and family for a Sensory-Friendly Evening. This after-hours program includes drop-in art-making workshops, wellness programs, and guides for exploring art and ideas in the galleries. Experience world-class art, explore the museum at your own pace, exercise your creativity, or simply enjoy spending time with friends and family in a supportive, judgment-free environment."

and The Sacred Stories Listening Tour was on the road again and we were so glad Georgia was on their mind! The amazing crew spent a few days engaging with L'Arche Atlanta asking about our faith and spirituality. As Calethia, one of our assistants shared, "the experience gave me an unexpected opportunity to pause, reflect on my journey, and recognize how so many seemingly unrelated moments along the way ultimately led me to L’Arche." The crew captured the sounds and activities of our community like Corbin on the bagpipes, and Terry singing a tune & creating artwork alongside HLL . We are truly grateful for this opportunity to be a part of this project!

As we close out Disability Pride Month, let us continue to advocate for equal access and treatment for all. It was 36 years ago when the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed into law but we still have much work to do to build an inclusive world where people with disabilities are celebrated and empowered.
