Yesterday marked the beginning of Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

Over the weekend, we asked you to count the devices charging in your home. Now, take a closer look at how they’re charging.

Use your charging superpower:

• Use the charging equipment made for your device.

• Place devices on a flat, hard surface while charging.

• Stop using a battery that is swollen, unusually hot, leaking, or damaged.

• Check battery powered devices, chargers, and power banks for recalls.

Your superpower is noticing a possible problem before it becomes an emergency.

During a fire, do not hide in bathrooms, closets, or bedrooms.

Firefighters want you to remember one simple rule:

➡️ Get out and stay out.

Fires spread fast. Smoke fills rooms quickly. Waiting or hiding can put your life at serious risk.

If there is smoke or fire in your home:
• Leave immediately
• Use the nearest safe exit
• Go to your outside meeting place
• Call 9-1-1 from outside

Your belongings can be replaced. Your life cannot.

🔥🍳 If a grease fire starts on your stove:

✔ Turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so
✔ Cover the pan with a metal lid
✔ Use a fire extinguisher
