May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

A gentle reminder: you can be strong and still need support. You can be successful and still feel overwhelmed. You can be there for everyone else and still need someone to check on you.

Mental health isn’t just about crisis it’s about care. It’s about rest without guilt, boundaries without explanation, and choosing yourself without apology.

Take a moment today to pause and ask yourself:
“How am I really doing?”

And whatever the answer is… honor it.

Let’s normalize therapy.
Let’s normalize saying “I’m not okay.”
Let’s normalize protecting our peace.

You matter. Your mind matters. Your healing matters.

The hardest part about going through a mental health episode whether it’s a panic attack, a phobia, or just an overwhelming moment is trying to explain it to someone who doesn’t understand.

Sometimes, I don’t need advice.
I don’t need solutions.
I don’t need to be talked through it.

Sometimes… I just need someone to be there.

To sit with me.
To hold my hand.
To exist in that moment with me even in silence.

Because in those moments, it can feel incredibly lonely.

Yes, reaching out to hotlines is important and helpful. But there’s something different about having someone physically there someone who doesn’t try to fix it, but simply stays.

The hardest part is when you don’t have that person.
When you’re going through it alone, wishing someone just understood what “being there” really means.

If you know someone who struggles, please understand this:
Your presence matters more than your words ever will.

And if you’re someone going through it you’re not asking for too much. You’re asking for connection. 🤍

Today is World Bipolar Day, and here’s what often goes unseen about living with Bipolar Disorder 👇🏾

1. It’s more than “mood swings.” It’s intense emotional highs and lows that can feel overwhelming and unpredictable.

2. Some days bring bursts of energy, little sleep, and racing thoughts. Other days feel heavy, slow, and exhausting.

3. People can show up, smile, work, and appear “fine”… while quietly struggling inside.

4. During the highs, everything may feel limitless. During the lows, even simple tasks can feel impossible.

5. It’s not drama. It’s not attention-seeking. It’s a real and serious mental health condition.

6. Many people are doing their best every single day to stay balanced even when it’s incredibly hard.

7. Stability takes time, effort, and support. It doesn’t happen overnight.

8. High moments can lead to overcommitting, followed by feeling overwhelmed later.

9. Low moments may look like withdrawing, canceling plans, or going quiet not because they don’t care.

10. Sleep patterns can shift drastically, and that alone can impact everything else.

11. Feeling misunderstood is common, especially when others expect them to “just control it.”

12. Support systems matter more than people realize sometimes one safe person makes all the difference.

13. Managing Bipolar Disorder often includes therapy, structure, and sometimes medication.

14. Words matter what you say can either comfort someone or make them feel more alone.

15. Just because someone is coping doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling.

So today, let’s do more than post—let’s learn, support, and create safe spaces.

And if you’re living with this, please remember: you are not alone, and your life matters. 🤍

NAMI’s theme for this year is more than a message — it’s how we move from silence to healing, together.

For too long, stigma has kept people quiet about their mental health. But when we speak up, we make space for understanding, connection, and healing.

So how do we begin? By sharing our stories.

When you share your story, you show someone else they are not alone. You help turn silence into support — and strengthen the path toward healing for all of us.

Join NAMI this Mental Health Awareness Month.
Share your story. Help break the silence: nami.org/mham
