Therapy for Queer People of Color (QPoC) is a mental health network based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Our goal is to increase access to quality and inclusive mental healthcare for queer and trans people of color through empowerment & education.

As we enter the new year, we know it can be tempting to hit the ground running and “grind” towards our goals. We encourage you, however, to consider a slower pace that is sustainable for the long haul and avoids the likelihood of burnout.

For you, does that look like taking a 5 minute pause to return to self midday, or setting a realistic expectation of getting back to someone next week? Whatever your approach, consider operating in alignment with your capacity rather than in spite of it.

At Therapy for QPOC, we are always here to hold you accountable to both your goals and your holistic well being.

We want to let you in on common conversations we’re having with clients and give you question prompts to consider for yourself.

As polyamory has grown in popularity, many of us are exploring the most authentic way for us to navigate. It can be common for clients to downplay their needs with the notion - “I can get them met in other relationships”. Regardless of how many relationships you have, it is important to be aware when one isn’t filling your cup, or even has become draining. Your needs are important and valid at all times and in all relationships ✨

Individual talk therapy may not feel like a match for everyone, and it is important to remember that there are multitudes of ways that we can care for ourselves.

As we approach the new year and many of us are considering how we might be intentional with our wellness, we may benefit from exploring body-based, spiritual, and/or community-oriented practices, such as support groups, yoga, tarot, reiki, mindfulness, EMDR, and the list goes on.

Conflict does not have to be the stall in connection that we often perceive it to be. Safe conflict resolution can serve as a bonding opportunity with our loved ones, increasing both trust and vulnerability in our relationships.

When both parties commit to not shying away at the first sign of conflict, we open ourselves up to deeper connection. What are other ways you maintain connection during conflict?

At times like this, it is especially imperative that we recognize the covert influences late stage capitalism and imperialism have on us at an individual level, so that we may evolve and care for ourselves and our communities in the process.
