Sometimes, the smallest changes can tell us the most.

Observing and tracking subtle changes in your Cat’s behavior and daily habits can play an important role in their overall health and wellbeing. Changes that may seem minor can sometimes be early indicators that something isn’t quite right.

Pay attention to changes from what’s normal for your individual Cat including:
• Decreased activity�• Changes in social interactions�• Increased hiding�• Changes in appetite or water intake�• Changes in litter box or elimination habits�• Changes in grooming�• Changes in breath or oral health

Did you know that by your Cat’s first birthday they’re roughly equivalent to 15 in human years? And 24 by their second birthday!

After those two years of life, a commonly used comparison is approximately four human years for every additional Cat year. That would make your 11-year-old Cat roughly equivalent to a 60-year-old human!

Of course, Cats don’t age according to a simple human-years formula. Feline life stages and individual health are much more meaningful when it comes to veterinary care.

Cats move through their life stages relatively quickly, which is one reason routine preventative care is so important. Regular wellness exams allow you and your veterinarian to establish your Cat’s individual baseline, monitor changes over time and adjust their care as their needs evolve.

How does your Cat show you they trust you?

“Cats can see in the dark” is a common misconception.

What’s true is that Cats can see much better than humans in low light. 

There are a few reasons for this:
🐈‍⬛Their eyes contain more light-sensitive receptors called rods, which help them detect movement and see in dim conditions.
🐈‍⬛Their pupils can expand much wider than ours, allowing more light to enter the eye.
🐈‍⬛The reflective layer behind the retina, called the tapetum lucidum, reflects light back through the eye, giving the retina a second chance to detect it — and creating that familiar nighttime eye-shine. 

But does that mean Cats have better eyesight than we do overall? Not exactly.

Cats are excellent at seeing in low light, but their vision is actually less sharp than ours. They see best at distances around 20 feet, while objects farther away become increasingly blurry. As for close range objects, Cats rely more heavily on their whiskers to detect and sense.

So, Cats may not see in the dark, but they’re pretty impressive when the lights go low.
