“People and policy should drive choice — not party.”

Yesterday I had an experience at a polling place that made me stop and reflect on something deeper about how our voting system functions.

I shared the full story in the carousel attached to this post.

This reflection isn’t about telling anyone how they should vote or what political views they should hold. It’s about asking a question that I suspect more people quietly wrestle with than we often admit.

What happens when voters evaluate candidates based on policy, values, and impact — rather than party identity?

Across the political spectrum, many people feel pressure to choose a side before they even have the chance to fully engage with the issues.

But democracy was never meant to be a loyalty test.

If you have a moment, read through the carousel and sit with the reflection at the end. I added a soundtrack that felt fitting while thinking about this — “What’s Going On.”

I’m genuinely curious how others think about this.

How many voters feel like they exist somewhere in the middle of our political system too?
