POTS is something real in my life: who can relate? Took me a long time to realize these tools but I use most of these to survive! Spread awareness as it isn’t talked about enough- Thepotswhisperer great post ❤️
Daily things that actually help POTS
if your symptoms feel all over the place… this is why
POTS isn’t just one thing
it’s how you manage your body ALL day long
It’s exhausting and trust me I get it
here’s what actually can help day to day:
• drink fluids plus increase salt
this helps your blood volume
• eat smaller meals
big meals can make you feel dizzy and completely wiped out. I do better with lighter frequent meals
• pay attention to triggers
carbs, caffeine, dairy, gluten, alcohol
and everyone is different so keep that in mind
• avoid standing still too long
even just standing in line can set symptoms off
• try compression (especially waist high)
it helps your blood circulate better
• be careful with heat
hot weather and hot showers can flare symptoms fast
• elevate your head when you sleep
• mornings can be rough
hydrate before you even get up and take it slow
• exercise matters but the RIGHT kind
jumping into intense workouts can actually make things worse
• keep a “go bag”
water, salt, snacks, meds
whatever you need so you don’t crash when you leave the house
• learn your patterns
your flares aren’t random, your body is reacting to something
this is why so many of us “look fine”
but are constantly managing everything behind the scenes. I had someone tell me the other day that I seem to be doing well with my POTS but it took years for me to learn all of this and plan outings and social events and I still end up needing a recovery period even when I do things right and that’s perfectly okay
living with POTS is a balancing act
there’s no perfect routine
no perfect treatment!
you can do everything right
and still have a flare
and that doesn’t mean you did anything wrong
it just means your body needed more support that day
we’re all just figuring out how to work with our bodies
and do the best we can with what we’ve got
