I was just checking out Jonathan Courtney’s latest episode of The Unscheduled CEO and he touched on a topic I don’t think we are talking about enough: how lazy it is to use AI for everything.
His exact words:
“Someone pitched me this week in German, when every trace of me on the internet is in English. Someone else opened with obvious AI slop, and in my mind that person is blacklisted, because lazy outreach means lazy work.
My split: use AI for the research, the strategy, the list of who to contact and what their problems are, then write the email yourself, click their website, watch their videos, maybe record a quick Loom. Ten extra minutes of effort puts you ahead of basically everyone, because the people you’re competing against will not do it.”
I freaking love this!
We are starting to have more people speak about how lazy it is to use AI for everything. This is why I’m so passionate about consulting with organizations that are interested in leveraging AI in the smartest ways possible, to support their team with the staying the smartest team in the game.
You know ball, so keep the ball. ⚽️🥅
When you allow yourself to use AI for almost every step of your process, you are no longer sharpening your sword. You are allowing your brain to be transferred into a language model.
Also, your interactions in touch points with your audience, leads, clients becomes flatter and less personalized. No one is impressed by something that can tell is AI.
In this time of AI slop it really means something to write an email yourself. The human touch is more important than it ever before are your team’s systems of working leveraging AI in a strategic way?
If not, you probably need to work with a service designer to collaborate with you in assessing and designing your approach.
