This page shares her story & will be her fundraising page to help pay medical bills. As many of you know my mother, Mary Mathis, has been struggling with kidney failure for little over a year now. She has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and has been on peritoneal dialysis for over a year now. We finally got everything approved and she is now on the transplant list for a new kidney! Our last task
(before getting the call), is to fundraise like nobody's business! Right now my mom still works part time, but that will change once she receives a kidney. She will forever be immunocompromised and cannot stay at a job that requires her to be in crowds of people. She will also have an increase in financial needs after transplant due to the high costs of anti rejection drugs. She will be on these for the rest of her life. Because of this, the transplant center requires us to fundraise as a qualification to be on the list. Our goal is to raise $25,000. The trickier thing is that we don't know how long we'll have to raise that. She could get the call in 3 months or 3 years. This page is meant to spread the word about my mom's situation. I want our friends and family to be in the loop, and if willing, help in any way. Whether that be through donations, volunteering to help fundraise or give emotional support. Donations can be monetary (please see link on this page to her fundraising website), it can be in the form of goods (either to Mary or items to be used in bake sales, auctions, etc.), OR a kidney (Seriously! Living donors do not bear any financial cost). Unfortunately, because this is a genetic disease, my brother and I are ruled out due to us also having the disease (We still have normal kidney function at this time). If anyone is interested in donating a kidney or wants to promote that idea, you can private message me and I can give you information to do your own research (the screening process is completely anonymous to us). I will have more information about transplants, fundraising and more very soon. But in the meantime, donating through the website is easy. If anyone wants to give cash, I am able to submit that with your name so that you can be recognized :) Oh, and did I mention the National Foundation for Transplants has been around since 1983 helping people like my mom?! Your donation will be a tax-detectible contribution. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and support!
