I just added these cool Sky Portal flicker-free circadian lights from .co to my home workspace. During the day they give off white light (with a gap in the 430-460nm blue light "hazard" range and boosted output at ~415nm and 480nm to target opsin sensitive to that range), and in the evening the temperature can be adjusted to a deeper amber color (boosted 660 nm output). Power and ratio k***s allow tweaking brightness and white/amber blending.

🚨 "Out of range" or optimized for longevity? 🤔

My omega fatty acid labs from flagged several results as abnormal - high EPA, DHA, DPA, and "low" AA/EPA and Omega-6:3 ratios.

But after running the data through a functional health/longevity lens (using ChatGPT), here’s what actually came to light:

âś… Omega-6:3 Ratio: 3.0 - Ideal for inflammation control
âś… AA/EPA Ratio: 2.6 - Excellent anti-inflammatory marker
âś… Omega-3 Index (EPA + DHA): 10.9% - Cardioprotective
âś… EPA + DHA - Far above optimal thresholds for brain, HRV, and vascular health
âś… Linoleic acid (24.8%) & Arachidonic acid (12.3%) - In range, not elevated

📉 TL;DR: Context matters. "Out of range" isn’t always bad - it can signal peak optimization when the goal is performance, not just "normality"!

In Austin this week for our quarterly .labs off-site/"hacker house" with my co-founder to code away on our next product/app ideas. Bonus of being in Austin this time is we get to meet up with friends!

We live on opposite sides of the country so we make an effort to get together IRL every 3-4 months for a week of focused work - a few of our most successful products emerged from previous off-site hackathons!

(Little known fact: Jeremy and I first met at the first-ever Biohacking conference that .asprey organized at a San Francisco bar nearly a decade ago for less than 100 people!)

Do you know your optimal resonance frequency breathing rate? Resonance frequency breathing is a way of breathing (slow relaxed diaphragmatic breathing at around 5-7 breaths per minute) that has a regulating effect on the autonomic nervous system and other key body systems such as the circulatory system and over time can increase heart rate variability (HRV).

We each have our own optimal resonance frequency of breathing, which can be anywhere from 4 to 7 breaths per minute. Here are the results of my most recent self-assessment, showing my optimal inhale/exhale rates were 5.5 / 5.5 (5.5 breaths per minute) and 4.4 / 6.6 (also 5.5 breaths per minute) - these were the rates that generated my highest average HRV numbers. Moving forward, I will use the 4.4 / 6.6 pattern because it “felt” more natural (easiness rating).

Record doing each pattern for 2 minutes and note your average HRV - I used the Corsense sensor and app by but you can also use 's “Moment” feature to capture a 5-minute HRV reading while breathing along to my app .labs Awesome Breathing (link in bio). Rest for 2 minutes, then do to the next breathing pattern.
