We almost put down our favorite girl last week.
My girl had a GI blockage, and the ER vet wanted $9k to do exploratory surgery. With her being 12 years old, I said no to that, and the ER, with some hesitation, let me bring her home. They told me that if I didn't do the surgery, she would likely perforate and die in the next 12 hours.

I called a vet the next day and had her come to our house to put her down. Many tears were shed by the whole family in making that decision, but we didn't want her to suffer.

Thankfully, this vet did an exam and told us we should wait it out. We did, and it was a very tough week. She didn't eat for 8 days! But she was drinking water, which is important.

On Saturday, she started passing a bunch of garbage that she had eaten. And then her appetite returned. Brought her to the vet today, and we just need to keep watching her. Her tail is wagging again, and she's eating!

Very grateful for the advice of the vet who told us to wait. This picture is from this morning.

Also, if she did need surgery, I found a privately owned clinic that could have done the surgery for as low as $1500. These companies buying vet clinics and jacking up prices suck!
