Please welcome Mindi Murnion, our new Community Health Worker (CHW). Mindi brings 17 years of experience with the Health Department and has completed significant professional development over the past six months. She recently completed Lay Counselor Training, a 65-hour intensive course in evidence-based behavioral health and was part of the first cohort to complete the training in Montana. She is also a Certified Family Peer Support Specialist, having completed that training in January and February, this also being the first cohort to complete the training in Montana.
A Community Health worker is a local resource dedicated to supporting the health and well-being. CHW’s help people navigate healthcare systems, understand medical information, connect with local resources, and overcome barriers such as access, cost, or paperwork. In rural Montana, where services can be few and far between having a trusted familiar point of contact makes a meaningful difference for individuals and families.
In addition to a connecting people to care community health workers provide education, advocacy and support around topics such as mental health resources, prevention, and overall Wellness their work strengthens communities by improving access to services and ensuring that people feel heard supported and empowered to make informed decisions about their health.
Fallon County’s Community Health Worker, Mindi Murnion, can be found at the Fallon County Health Department. She can be reached at 406-778-2824
