We turn 16 years old this month! Maryland Birth Services has supported almost 600 birth clients in 16 wonderful years of work! I am grateful to my clients who choose me, I am grateful to my family who hold me up, and to my colleagues who keep me grounded. I look forward to many more years of support in our wonderful community!

Dates! Do you like them? Have to choke them down? Data shows us that they do work to help soften the cervix and prepare it to be ready for when labor starts. (NOTE: dates do not put your body into labor. They are not an inductive, they are a cervix-ripener). 3-4 dates a day can make a difference in labor outcomes. Are you eating dates? En Caul is where a baby is born completely encased in an intact amniotic sac— Historically cited to occur in fewer than 1 in 80,000 live births, modern estimates indicate it may range between 1 in 80,000 and up to 1-2% - so it’s pretty rare and oh so special. And even more special to me was that I supported this little one’s Aunt and cousin just a few short months ago in the same hospital. I love family births- it is so special to me!

I’m so grateful for the partnership I have with so many providers! It’s not lost on me to be supported so well, in a culture that often does not value doulas.

It’s always a great day when I have a postpartum visit with a family and get to snuggle a sweet little one! What’s a postpartum visit entail? I offer different packages with support options and one has an extended visit. During this time, like this family had, we went over their updates and questions, talked through immediate and long term goals, debriefed from the birth and discussed resources and next steps for their continued recovery and well-being. Every visit is unique- and will always be tailored to each client! I look forward to connecting at these visits as they are so special! Congrats again to this amazing family! Job well done! 👏🩵💫
