📞💚 THE CALL CAME.
At 2 AM, our good friend and longtime EKF supporter Patrick Colson got the call he had been waiting for.
A kidney was available.
Today, Patrick is receiving his gift of life. 💚
When we first met Patrick, he was on dialysis, struggling with his weight and overall health, unable to qualify for transplant, and mentally he wasn’t in a good place.
But Patrick took a chance on himself.
He found community. He found mentorship. He got organized.
EKF helped connect Patrick with resources, including a National Kidney Registry microsite where he could share his story, while helping him navigate the journey and understand what his next steps could look like.
But here’s the part we really want people to understand:
Nobody went out and “found Patrick a kidney.”
PATRICK GOT HIMSELF READY.
He started paying attention to his WHOLE health—his diet, weight, dialysis, what he was drinking, how he was feeling, and his mental health.
He transitioned to home hemodialysis.
He became transplant eligible.
He got listed at multiple transplant centers.
And when that phone finally rang in the middle of the night…
PATRICK WAS READY. 📞💚

Sometimes our job isn’t to create the light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s helping someone see that it’s still there—and helping them keep moving toward it.
