It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
🎃🍁
As the days have gotten shorter, the air crisper, and the colors start to settle in, I have also slowed down. With the recent changes, creating has returned to something a bit more meditative and experimental. It has been nice to move with the natural seasonal shift. Took some time to finally finish this skull sketch I had drawn out years ago in thread.
💀🍂
The timing of the change is fortunate as, outside of stitching, life has been a difficult lately. An amalgamation of reasons that have weighed on my chest. Add in the current events that have never felt so heavy and I spend most days wondering what will break first: me or the world… and I know this is not a unique feeling. I don’t scuba, but I’m stuck on this metaphor that we are all deep underwater and being forced to surface faster than we can physically stomach. Add in the amalgamation of unexpected extras: oxygen running low, bitten by an animal, etc. It all keeps compounding.
✨👻
I’ll end on a note of appreciation for all of the artists, creatives, activists, and humans (not slop) continuing to make beautiful and challenging art in our current times. I am so often inspired to continue my own pursuits because my cup is repeatedly filled from witnessing artistic passion and intellect so astounding it could be an offering to Apollo himself. In my suffering from The Bends of life, the work is my hyperbaric chamber. So, thank you, artists of the age. There is no compensation worthy enough for your labors keeping our souls alive.
