Gratitude, but make it a practice…. not just a feeling. ✨

Research shows that consistently writing down what you’re grateful for can increase overall well-being, improve sleep, and even reduce symptoms of stress and depression. People who keep a weekly gratitude journal feel more optimistic and physically better than those who don’t..

Over time, gratitude journaling can actually rewire the brain, helping you notice more of what’s good, even when life feels heavy.

It doesn’t have to be profound.
Just honest.

A moment.
A breath.
A small thing that mattered.

Write it down—and let it count. 🤍

Grief doesn’t always need words. Sometimes it just needs this. 🤍

Affectionate touch, like cuddling, can actually lower stress hormones and increase oxytocin, the hormone linked to bonding and comfort.

And in grief, that matters. Studies have found that even in the midst of loss, simple touch can increase feelings of closeness and emotional connection.

So when everything feels heavy, I come back to warmth, to presence, to love I can still hold.

I woke up not feeling like my usual sunny self. I was irritable. Short. I felt rage just simmering below the surface. And then I realized the date.

The anniversary of Little’s passing - our dog who was with us through every chapter of our relationship for 11+ years. We had to say goodbye to him exactly one month after my mom.

Grief doesn’t always show up as sadness. Sometimes it’s sharp. Sometimes it burns.

Writing has been one of the most important ways I’ve learned to move with my grief instead of against it, to release just a tiny bit of what feels overwhelming, to give the parts that aren’t “pretty” a voice too.

This piece is raw, fiery, honest. It’s also the part people don’t talk about.

I’m sharing it because if you, or someone you love, has felt this kind of anger inside of grief, it’s normal. It’s human, and it deserves space, not silence. Link in Bio

After my mom passed, there were three things that carried me through the days I didn’t think I could get through.

1. Cuddling my dog 🤍
2. Moving my body — even when I didn’t want to. Especially then.
3. Writing it all down — the sadness, the anger, the longing, the love

Grief has a lot to say. Let it.

And if a blank page feels like too much, I created something to gently guide you through it.

The Good Grief Healing Companion Workbook is there to hold you when you need somewhere to put it all.

No one talks about the performance requirement that comes along with grief. People don’t know what to say so they say the wrong things. They ask questions that feel like invasions or they disappear when you need them most. And you’re supposed to hold all of that on top of the actual loss. Swipe through if this sounds familiar. You are not alone, and you are not wrong for feeling it. The Good Grief Healing Companion Workbook is for when you need a space that doesn’t require you to perform. Link in bio.

During a season where everything speeds up
where cheer is expected and high spirits feel mandatory
how do you make space for grief?

This holiday season asked me to slow down instead
To listen
To cancel plans
To create
To stay in relationship with love, even when it hurts

I didn’t do grief “well” but I met it honestly

I wrote about what actually helped me through the holidays not to offer advice, but to remember what I’m learning

If this resonates, I share more here 🤍 https://trueopal.com/f/grief-and-the-holidays
