Cheryl Brodnax, LPC Offering individual, couple, and children's counseling in and around the Baton Rouge area

I have a passion to help individuals and families find healing, direction, and balance in their lives. Becoming a counselor has been a lifelong calling that began in unlikely places. My first career was in marine biology, which pivoted to program management, and ultimately to counseling. As strange a combination of careers this may be, they have combined my problem solving and interpersonal skills

to the joyful work of helping others. I truly love working with clients of all ages, all backgrounds, and all views on life. I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to counseling, and I strive to work with clients to tailor the right approach for them. Ultimately, the client is the expert on their lives, and I respect the partnership that comes from working together to meet life goals.

To all my parents dropping kids at college this month: I’m right there with you. It’s a wonderful and terrible adjustment, but we’ll get through it.

I just drove off our son’s college campus to make the long drive home. As he closed the dorm door it occurred to me that I was going to a home where he wouldn’t be. Since move-in day I’ve been slowly adapting to his bein...

I love working with kids in my practice; I learn a ton from them which has sharpened my own approach to parenting. Read below for the most common reasons why our kids stop talking to us, and how to get them back.

Being a parent is no easy gig. We spend the early years looking for some peace and quiet, and the latter years missing the noise. When the teen years hit we have to adjust from being the one that hung the moon to the one...

Slowing the pace of our lives is a hard task. It's easy to busy-up because it often makes us feel more important, or we believe we have to run ourselves ragged. I've wrestled with the concept of taking better care of myself, and finding a pace of life that's not only manageable, but healthy. This is an article I wrote for BR Parents magazine that still rings true; I hope it resonates with you!

So, I have a problem with over-commitment. It seems that any time there is white space on my calendar, I find some excuse to fill it. My husband often points out that I never just sit. What? Who doesn’t sit? Except, he’s right. In my mind I’ve created a universe where moms don’t have crazy [...

Few things are tougher than parents watching their children walk away from a faith they've always been raised in. I've known many parents who have struggled with this. There's hope!

We’ve all heard about the story of the prodigal son. Jesus shared this story about a wayward child who blew his inheritance, lived wrecklessly, and once defeated returned back home to his father who readily forgave and e...

It's baseball season and if you have little ones, that can mean endless weekends at the park. I pulled a decade doing this and learned some lessons along the way. Below is an article I wrote for Baton Rouge Parents magazine. Maybe you can relate!

I’m a baseball mom. I live at the ballpark from February through July. For the last seven years, I’ve sacrificed my weekends (and sometimes sanity) to drag an unearthly amount of stuff to every ballpark imaginable so our boys can do what they love. It took me a while to forget about what else I ...

Ever been struck with recurring intrusive thoughts, or driven home to recheck the door yet again? OCD can be crippling, but it is understandable and can be helped.
