Today honors balance, when seeds begin to stir, seeds planted with intent or cast haphazardly. Seeds whose germination bears out the stories of what and who we have labored for, cared about, learned from, dreamt alongside.

It is a day to revel in light returning, the warm air, the sun taking up more space. A day inviting balance, a re-tilt towards more safety, a reckoning with grief and a gathering and spreading of abundance and life.

It is a day to notice the seeds that have been tended carefully by others, waiting for us to notice, seeds that have survived the most unforgivable conditions. Today we are invited to notice, to repair, to offer water, to find a new and less harmful path to walk.

Beauty in the aged, the abandoned, the cracked & the crumbling.

From “Mainstream ideas of “healing” deeply believe in ableist ideas that you’re either sick or well, fixed or broken, and that nobody would want to be in a disabled or sick or mad bodymind...these ableist ideas often carry over into healing spaces that call themselves “alternative” or “liberatory.” The healing may be acupuncture and herbs, not pills and surgery, but assumptions in both places abound that disabled and sick folks are sad people longing to be “normal,” that cure is always the goal, and that disabled people are objects who have no knowledge of our bodies. And deep in both the medical-industrial complex and “alternative” forms of healing that have not confronted their ableism is the idea that disabled people can’t be healers.”

Each of these three pillars of dust and gas is light years tall (what?!) and giving birth to new stars (also what?!?). Each of these new stars is like our sun, and could have its own planets orbiting. 🪐

New possibilities, new worlds, in constant formation. Stardust creating both the people we love and the people we organize out of power. In a moment where the planets shift, we have the opportunity to call in something new - something old - to remember non-extractive ways of existence - to remember how to listen.

May this solstice and great conjunction call in a world where accountability, belonging, and safety are possible. Where boundaries are celebrated, where we find right relationship with land and human & non-human life. Where we enter restful exploration and journey deep to understand the gifts of the longest night of the year.
