I didn’t expect that last video to reach so many people 🤍

There’s a lot that goes into a decision like this… and it didn’t happen overnight

While many may not agree - most are extremely supportive. I feel really at peace with what’s next. What would you like to know?

As long as I can remember, babies have been my thing.

As early as I can remember, wherever I was, I would find the nearest baby and make them my buddy. I quickly became quite a popular babysitter in town, and over time people started joking that I was a bit of a baby whisperer.

What started as something I loved slowly became what I was known for. Today I’ve built a career helping moms and babies as an RN and lactation consultant, supporting families during those first precious months of life.

But as I’ve moved through my 30s, the pressure of my biological clock has become harder to ignore. The one thing I’ve always wanted most in life is to be a mom.

I never imagined doing it on my own… but life doesn’t always unfold the way we think it will.

So at 36, I’ve decided to pursue becoming a single mom by choice through IVF.

This isn’t something I’ve gone into lightly. It’s something I’ve thought about, researched, and wrestled with for a long time. In fact I’m already halfway through. I have decided to document some of the steps along the way.

If you’re curious about how this journey unfolds, follow along as we find out together. 🤍

I became an IBCLC while working for New Parent Support Program serving local military families and realize what a sacrifice military families make on a regular basis. I have applied to be Tricare certified and am offering military families 10% off of consults - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE! ®

"Following recommended storage and preparation techniques can maintain the safety and quality of expressed breast milk for the baby’s health." -CDC Website

There are a lot of "if, ands, or buts" when it comes to storing breastmilk and thawing it.

Here's our chart to help guide you through those scenarios.

⚠️FAQ: Milk storage guidelines recommend discarding leftover breast milk that's in the bottle after two hours because of the potential for bacterial contamination from your baby's mouth.

The biggest update to guidlines in the past few years: It's now "okay" to mix freshly extracted milk with cold milk that's already in the fridge.

Don't forget to save this for reference.

My favorite bottles for babies to go back and forth from breast to bottle are the lansinoh, evenflow balance, and dr browns.

Why?

Well, it’s the gradual taper from ni**le base to tip that is important to look for. Many bottles advertise breast like but they have big broad bases and a sharp slope to ni**le or a pinched shape to the ni**le. Babies tongues are not meant to follow a rigid sharp slope so they will often slip to the end of the ni**le and narrow their latch.

Flow is also important - you want a slow flowing bottle. Dr browns bottles come with level 1 but babies often need preemie ni**les with those. Babies should take closer to 15-30mins rather than 5-10. Paced feeding, an appropriate choice of bottle, and slow flow ni**le is the way to go!

Everybody has different elasticity to their tissues - including their ni**les. When some people pump they may not notice much change at all when using the correct fl**ge. Others may be slightly alarmed when they first go to pump at how much their ni**le stretches and fills the fl**ge tunnel! If you have double checked that you are using a shield size only 2-4mm larger than the base of your ni**le and your tissue still stretches into the fl**ge tunnel like this - a silicone material may help to grab your tissue a bit more while pumping. Also remember higher suction does not mean higher output! Highest COMFORTABLE suction. **gesize **les
