We are excited to keep the momentum going in our efforts to raise funds for Black Mamas Matter Alliance matter through our adventure racing--and thank you to all who have supported so far! This weekend, Tim Clinton and Adam Hellman are headed up to somewhere in the Catskills where they will packraft, mountain bike, and trek/run their way (navigating with a map and compass) through a course designed by NYARA to take the strongest teams close to 24 hours to clear. This will be our hardest test ever! They will check in near Belleayre Mountain, and then the race organizer will bus the racers an hour away to an "undisclosed location" for the race start! And to add to the challenge, Tim and Adam have declared their intention to clear the course (something only a handful of teams usually do in these races) AND make the podium. (Team Tikee has not accomplished either of these things.) As Tim likes to say, "Go big or go . . . on a slightly less ambitious adventure!"

P.S. Adam and Tim both are recovering from recent non-Covid flu-like symptoms; Tim has torn ligaments in both elbows, cysts in both ankles, and a torn meniscus in a knee; Adam is recovering from a recently broken foot; they both are idiots. Does that make this better or worse?

Watch this show as a precursor to meeting Baratunde out with us on an AR course at some point before the end of 2023. (We’ve been working on him for nearly two years.) 🙂

Thanks to for the great shots from last week’s Shenandoah Epic! A few pictures of me disoriented before heading out to trek (when I should’ve taken a quick nap first). But Rae looks tough like always! She kept watch while Tavar and I rested….What another great experience!

Adventure racing is...a form of marriage therapy? For Tim Clinton and Rae after 21 years of marriage, falling off a bike after getting lost in the woods in the middle of the night is a great way to grow closer together and even--make music together!

Posted • Did you know that Black women are 3 TIMES more likely to die of a pregnancy-related cause than White women are?

According to the CDC, “Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality healthcare, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism, and implicit bias.”

With this heartbreaking statistic in mind, we knew that we had to show the emotional journey that Aneka would go on when she encounters the racism of an unfamiliar doctor in Divine Mother.

When it comes to making systemic change and healing these issues individually and collectively, we have a long way to go. We can only tell one small story in our film, but we hope that it raises awareness and inspires others to tell their stories, too.

What an honor to race this past weekend with onyxadventureracing and We Don't Quit Adventure Racing to raise money for Black Mamas Matter Alliance! Although we fell short of our racing goal, we improved dramatically over last year, and we know what we need to do to improve for next time! Shout out to Adventure Enablers for designing and executing an AMAZING course!

We made new friends, we pushed past the limits we thought we had, and we learned new skills. And most importantly, we were able to shed some light on the institutional racism and related factors that cause black mothers to face disproportionately adverse outcomes. The AR community is really, very special, and we feel so welcomed by everyone on the course (notwithstanding the Confederate flags and museum to Confederate soldiers in all the surrounding areas). If you haven't done so yet, I hope you will consider supporting BMMA--they truly are a wonderful organization.

So much to share about this weekend! But this was definitely a highlight.
