One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is how much our bodies are designed to respond to the rhythms of nature.
As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler, I don’t expect my body to feel or function exactly the same as it did in the middle of summer. Instead of fighting the change, I try to adjust my habits and work with the season.
Here are a few things I’m focusing on this fall ⬇️
☀️ Getting outside in the morning.
Even if it’s just a short walk with my boys (sometimes in our pajamas!), I want to get natural light into my eyes early in the day. It helps support my circadian rhythm, boosts my energy, and sets me up for better sleep at night.
💪 Continuing to move my body.
I’m embracing walks, strength training, and outdoor time while the weather is still comfortable, knowing movement doesn’t have to look the same every season.
🍲 Choosing warm, nourishing meals.
This is the time of year when soups, roasted vegetables, and cozy meals naturally sound more appealing, and I lean into that.
💡 Dimming the lights in the evening.
Since the sun sets earlier, I try to reduce lights and screens by turning off the overhead lights, turn on warm lamps, and turn my phone to red spectrum setting.
🤍 Giving myself permission to slow down.
Instead of feeling like I have to maintain the fast pace of summer, I’m trying to embrace a little more rest, margin, and presence.
I’ve found that when I align my habits with the season instead of trying to power through it, I feel more grounded, energized, and connected to the way God designed our bodies.
Nature changes with the seasons.
I think our routines can, too.
Do you notice your body craving different things as we move into fall?
