Living Whole Food Plant Based

Living Whole Food Plant Based Went WFPBNO 2/2016 & we never looked back. We’ve lost over 200lbs & are off all our meds. Let me tell you what... IT WORKED!! We didn't track anything.

We are a family of 3, living in Montana, changing our lives and our health for the better by learning to live Whole Foods Plant-based. This page is a collection of information we have found as we journey along our WFPB lifestyle along with bits and pieces of our own personal journey. We started our WFPB journey in February of 2016 after watching Forks Over Knives to see if we could get the Hubster

off his blood pressure and cholesterol medicines, not even thinking about the weight loss really but of course we both needed to drop some serious weight also. Most of all we wanted to see if we could change my Husbands chronic illness direction. So far we have lost together over 200 lbs and a bunch of medicines (we are both off ALL our medicines in fact) in the process. Mom and Dad are the ones doing the losing and the teenage son is along for the ride, happily maintaining, enjoying the yummy food and all the benefits he gets along with us. He now has a very bright health future ahead of him. We didn't count anything. We didn't portion anything. Simply put we eat as whole a plant food as we can. We don't drink our meals. We learned the difference between good carbs and bad carbs. Embraced the potato. Dropped the oil and of course any animal products of any kind. Lastly we keep the processed food to a minimum and became obsessive label readers lol. Learn what your ingredients actually are. If you cant pronounce it or you do not know what it is, it put it back. Learn to cook. It's now going to be a part of your life. You can fight it and fail or embrace it and succeed. The choice is yours =0]

We are so excited for our future and to see where this lifestyle is going to take us. So far, besides all the health benefits, we this lifestyle has seen to get us naturally into gardening and who knows whats next! LOL

Journey along with us as we life better lives feeling better, doing better and living better by living Whole Foods Plant-Based.

I got a lot of questions about what recipe I use for my pizza dough and this is the recipe. Its no longer online so I scanned in my copy. I change out the bread flour to either be a mix of bread flour and whole wheat or all whole wheat depending on what I am making. I have tried it with lots of different kinds of flour and they have all worked well with it. I just put all the ingredients in my Joydeem Electric Dough Maker and let it do its thing but you can easily hand knead it of course. I have made it into rolls, loaves, pizza, calzones etc.. added in all kinds of add ins from herbs to sliced or roasted garlic etc.. just a nice all around dough recipe. I am pretty sure the coconut milk ( I use light ) is the game changer in this recipe but thats just a guess. Anyways hope that helps for those asking or looking for a good basic recipe for dough. Have fun!

I have always wanted to do this and always put it off to do "some day" well some day is today! I ordered the silicone containers and as soon as they got here I washed them and got to work. I am SO FREAKING EXCITED about this. I always buy ginger and have to throw some out because it goes bad before I can use it up. I also am lazy and buy the huge container of fresh chopped garlic at Sams Club and even though we eat garlic like we are trying to ward off vampires or something it always gets a little bitter by the bottom as its getting older. So this way I can just portion it all out and freeze it and plop it in anything I want when ever I want. No waste. EEEE So excited! I do still have always on hand fresh heads of garlic but I use that more for when I use raw garlic like in salads etc. Anyways just wanted to share. The ginger is in a 1 tablespoon size and the garlic on the right is in a 2 tablespoon size. I got them on Amazon here https://amzn.to/3RVElg6 anyways off to get these in the freezer. Do you freeze ginger and garlic? What other things do you portion out and freeze like this?

Are you a savory breakfast eater or a sweet breakfast eater? What's your go to for breakfast?

Mine is always savory. Its either leftovers or some kind of rice cooker dish like this one. I think my favorite is rice cooker porridge though but this one is realllly good too.

Rice, carrots, onions, mushrooms, arame, a little coconut amino's and cook on the rice cooker setting. When done top with your favorite seasonings like dark and light sesame seeds and nori with a splash of soy sauce around the edge. Yum!

Made it up Bean Burgers for the win! Who else likes to just toss beans along with other this and thats into a bowl, squish it all around and then form it into burgers, pop into the oven for 20 to 30 mins depending on your oven and p**f dinner! So easy. I have 2 kinds tonight.

1. light and dark kidney beans, chickpeas, refried beans, corn and Mrs. Dash
2. dark kidney beans, red beans, chickpeas, navy beans and canned okra/corn/tomato mix

Both I added just a bit of ground up oatmeal to bind it all together.

Yummy!

How about you? Whats your favorite throw together bean burger?

We are finally wrapping up the kitchen!! Here is my "Stove Side"... Guess I have no excuse to not get to cooking now lol

I would note only one thing in the before photo (top). The 2 cabinets you see in the dark stain actually were not stained before we started on the kitchen. We had started staining cabinets when I remembered to take a before photo. So pretend those are still raw unfinished wood.

The only thing I would add to the after photo ( bottom ) is that the dark cabinet on the left still has to be replaced and then moved as its just kind of sitting in there weird but that will be this weekend. It will look the same color though so still same idea. Oh and the new butcher block counter that goes under the rice cooker in the right is here we just have to cut it and install it but again thats this weekend. So pretend the oak one you see there is the new acacia butcher block there instead. 😜

So I think it’s safe to say it looks a wee bit better now. At least I think so. Finished? No we still have to live in it a while to get all the “what goes where’s” handled but the basics are done and thats enough for now.

We had a big bowl green salad for lunch today and tried this salad dressing. It was so good! Highly recommend. If you are looking for an "Italian" type dressing thats not "pucker your face off" but still with lots of flavor give this one a try.

Fat-free, oil-free dressing full of zesty Italian flavor! You'll love this low-calorie dressing on salads, veggies, pasta salad & more.

Months shouldn't start on a Friday lol After a couple of days of trying to find my feet again I full got back on eating right on Monday. Its always amazing how fast WFPB works. I already feel so much better and have lost 9lbs of the weight I packed back on over the last couple years. Cant say I am not still hurting but in fairness I also started working out a little bit and I am pretty sure thats what is hurting more than the normal aches and pains lol Honestly just feel better mentally to be back to doing what I know I need to do. Plus OMG the food this past week has been wonderful. "falling off" had never been about the taste, it had always been about the lack of connivence. What I wouldn't have given over the past 2 ish years for a WFPB food truck or restaurant. Anyways just glad when I needed it to be there WFPB was and is still there and still doing what it promised to do.

With that here is next weeks menu plan -ish. I say -ish because we have some from the previous week I still need to finish making and then we will move into this list of meals. I never plan to make all the ones I find but this gives me the ingredients in the house and options to choose from to narrow things down. Though I know for sure that Cajun Cabbage and Rice is happening because its one of my favorite recipes.
