Ernest Cypress was admitted to our Encompass Health hospital in Savannah, Georgia after a stroke. When he arrived, Ernest had right-sided weakness, which made sitting, standing and walking difficult.

As an avid fisherman, he set a personal goal to get stronger so he could return to fishing with his friends. Ernest’s physical therapist incorporated fishing activities into his sessions to help his balance and improve the use of his right hand. We are proud of all your hard work and progress, Ernest. Thank you for trusting us with your care! 🎣

Lisa came to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute of Tucson after having a stroke. When she arrived, she was unable to hold up her head or speak clearly. With the help of her care team and therapists, she has regained the ability to speak much more clearly and now has the strength to hold her head up.

During a recent therapy session, Lisa practiced putting on makeup, standing, and working on core balance and weight shifting while tossing beanbags into a pail. She has been a positive example for other patients by never turning down an exercise and cheering on those around her as they work through their own therapies.

With strong support at home, Lisa is looking forward to enjoying a steak cooked by her husband and reuniting with her dogs.

Ann Lilly is a stroke survivor. Her husband, Pro Football Hall of Famer Bob Lilly, saved her life by calling 911 when he knew something was seriously wrong. As an active couple who walked several miles daily, the stroke left Ann needing intense therapy to learn to walk and talk again. When she came to our hospital in Prosper, Texas, Ann worked with physical, occupational and speech therapists to meet her goals and learn to do daily tasks again. Ann saw significant success and today, she is back to walking alongside Bob.

After having a stroke in December 2025, Joseph Brown experienced challenges with his speech, memory and balance. Our rehabilitation team at our Encompass Health hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida used advanced therapy equipment to address these deficits and help him regain independence. The Vector system offloads weight to promote a more natural walking pattern, and Blaze Pods were used to incorporate coordination, sequencing, balance and dual task completion — plus they add a bit of fun to therapy sessions!

Roderick Perry was attending his son's lacrosse game when his family noticed he was slumped over and unable to stand up. His responses were also delayed, and he couldn’t move his left arm. Scans revealed that he had a type of stroke that is often fatal.

When he arrived at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shreveport in Louisiana, Roderick could not walk or sit unsupported at the edge of the bed. He has worked for a local sheriff’s office for more than 30 years, and the toughness and resilience he developed throughout his career carried over into his rehabilitation.

Through hard work in our stroke program, he has made tremendous progress and can now walk. It has been a pleasure to be part of his remarkable recovery. Keep up the great work, Roderick!
