Emergency medical services (EMS) have spent years chasing retention as the primary, and, for some agencies, the only solution to a growing workforce crisis. Agencies raise wages where they can, adjust schedules, add incentives, and invest in wellness initiatives, all in hopes of keeping their providers longer.

While these efforts are important, they no longer address the root of the problem. Today, EMS is not a “stay forever” career for most providers.

The “originals” are retiring, and in most cases, there just isn’t anyone to take their place. Pretending that the career is lifelong in most cases has left agencies stuck in a cycle of constant hiring, burnout, and staffing instability.

If EMS leaders continue to build systems that assume long-term retention is the norm, staffing shortages will persist. Instead, if we design recruitment models that expect turnover and plan for it, EMS can become stable, predictable, and sustainable again: https://ow.ly/raUC50ZBTpF

We are just days away from the start of Brian’s Boot Camp - Alpha Company! Brian, Missi, and our team of instructors have been working hard over the past few weeks to design a top notch curriculum for our participants. Want to join us? There’s still time! The flyer is in this post!

During the day on Saturday and Sunday, we will be performing living scenarios. Please don’t be alarmed if you hear screams, loud noises, or see people running back and forth to our ambulances. I assure you no one is actually hurt and these are not real emergencies!
