Some days it just hurts to be human.
I've been stressed and honestly didn't want to write about Nolan Wells. This post isn't really about him.
Today I had one of those cries. The long, twenty-minute kind. Sometimes it's a release. Sometimes it's about everything and nothing at once.
I've been a walking contradiction my whole life — and mostly okay with it. But sensitive? Nope. I cringe at "empath" and "highly sensitive person." Because I've trained myself to be logical, and I am logical. I'm an ENTJ. I lead with data and my thinking brain.
But I'm also intuitive. And I've come to learn that comes with an inner knowing — a deep sensitivity best described as deeply empathic, highly oversensitive. So with everything else in my life, I've had to learn to be okay with holding both. I am one of the most logical women you know, AND one of the most sensitive.
I cried and staved off a panic attack leaving the Civil Rights museum. I feel collective grief every September 11th. I couldn't get out of bed the day after the discrimination exhibit at the Arab American Museum here in Dearborn.
I kept telling myself I didn't want to write about Nolan Wells. Why mull over it? I'm writing a book on this. I want to be part of the solution. But the empath part of me wouldn't let it go — because right now I have friends facing microaggressions in high-level careers. A couple weeks ago, at a hotel ten minutes from my house, police were called on a woman for refusing to pay $4 for a piece of cheese she never ordered.
And I have roots in Mississippi. People close to the scene. What if my great-grandmother hadn't moved north? What if it were my son, or my nephew?
So despite my best efforts, I cried today. A good cry — grief and sadness for Nolan Wells' family, but also for injustice, and for things I didn't want to feel. I've been listening to Untamed by Glennon Doyle, and a few of her lines wrecked me. She talks about her daughter's obsession with saving the whales — the moment she "got it." People like her daughter, and like me — highly sensitive people — would be seen as intuitive healers in other cultures. In Western culture, we're pathologized instead. I cried for that too. Dance freely. Invite joy without permission. Your body is the permission slip. 🌸

Tomorrow is GlobalWellnessDay, and this year's theme is JoyMagenta — joy as a healing force.

Here's the thing we forget: joy isn't a reward you earn at the end of the hard thing. It's a language your body already speaks — the dropped shoulders, the deeper breath, the move that happens before your mind says okay.

That's leading from inside the body, not above it. And it starts with letting joy in before the conditions are perfect.

Find one moment this week to move like nobody handed you a rulebook. 🤎

Helping you boss up AND breathe.

Seven years ago today, I climbed a mountain alone and found out I never was. 🏔️

June 11, 2019. The White Pass gold-rush train, nearly 3,000 feet up out of Skagway. Five excursions on that Alaska trip — boat tour, black bear, helicopter, dog sledding — every one of them solo.

Somewhere on that climb, the fear just… left my body. And I realized Jehovah had been on the train the whole time. I was never riding alone.

I didn’t have the words yet, but I was already living what I now teach: leading from inside the body, not above it. Steady on hard ground.

Those hashtags I posted back then — — weren’t captions. They were prophecy.

Seven years and a lot of hard country later — I’m still climbing. Still steady. Still here.

Scared AND fearless. Alone AND never alone.

Whatever you’re climbing today: do it scared. You’re not alone in it either.

Helping you boss up AND breathe. 🤎

That's not brave. That's regulated. 🐆

A wild cub climbed into my arms and my body just… let it. No bracing. No performing calm.

That's the same thing that makes a room settle. The same thing that makes strangers tell me what they won't say out loud.

The cheetah is the fastest thing alive — AND she knows how to rest. That's not weakness. That's the whole secret.

Lead from inside the body, not above it.

🎉✨ Happy Anniversary to Me! ✨🎉
Three years ago this week, I had my going-away luncheon with my GM family. 💙 They asked me what it felt like to leave, and I told them the truth: “It feels like a breakup! It feels bittersweet! It feels like ‘it’s not you, it’s me — I still love you, but I have to move on.’” 😭
So that Friday, I turned in my badge after 20 years and bet on myself full-time. Before, I was an automotive professional — because that’s just the thing you do in Michigan. And I DID love that role. And because of my daddy and his 43 years there, I had already been team GM long before I ever clocked in myself — and I will be team GM until the day I die. But that Friday, I stopped building someone else’s dream and started building mine. 🚀
Let me tell you what these three years actually asked of me. Not the highlight reel — the real one. Because I believe in telling the whole story, AND I believe the story is worth telling. ❤️
And here’s the most honest thing I can say: for most of 2024 and 2025, I felt like I was failing. 😔 I really did. I was working myself to the bone and still felt like I was falling behind. It’s only NOW, looking back with clearer eyes, that I can finally see the truth — I wasn’t failing at all. I was surviving things that would have taken most people all the way out. I was building in the middle of a storm. There’s a big difference, and I’m just now learning to give myself the credit I kept withholding. 🙏🏽
So let me walk you through it — and how I made it through each one.
June 2023. Less than a month in, the cousin closest to me in age passed away from a stroke. I grieved AND I kept building — because the calling doesn’t pause for the pain. It holds it. 💔
July 2023. My business launch funding came through $30,000 short because of a financial planner’s error. I launched anyway. With less. On purpose. Because everything is figureoutable (thank you, Marie Forleo 📖) — and waiting for perfect conditions is just fear in a nicer outfit.
January 2024. A car crash and a delayed claim cost me around $10,000 in income — plus all the hours nobody pays you for: the paperwork, the emails, the chasing. I kept moving anyway. 🚗
May 2024. CONT
