📅Save the date: November 17 at the Indiana Statehouse. The Indiana Disability Alliance is hosting a rally, and you are invited!

November 17th is Organization Day, the day Indiana lawmakers gather at the Statehouse to prepare for the upcoming legislative session. That means all 150 members of the Indiana General Assembly will be there. And we need the disability community there too.

Last week, the Senate began to move forward bipartisan legislation that would strengthen support for the nation’s 1.5 million direct support professionals.
DSPs make independent living possible for millions of people with disabilities. They provide essential support with daily activities, communication, transportation, employment, and participation in the community.

But chronic workforce shortages are leaving people without the services they need. Disability providers have been forced to turn away new participants, delay programs, and discontinue services because they cannot recruit and retain enough direct support professionals.
Right now, DSPs aren’t accurately counted in federal labor data.

The Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act would help policymakers better understand this distinct workforce and develop solutions that strengthen wages, working conditions, and access to community-based services.

Our Destination crew was on the move and pulling some serious weight at the Special Olympics Indiana Plane Pull today! ✈️💪

Today, we're celebrating a for Hoosier families who care for loved ones with disabilities. 🧡

The state has announced it is rescinding the planned rate reduction for live-in family caregivers. This happened because Hoosiers spoke up. Families, self-advocates, providers, local chapters, and advocates shared their lived experiences—and those stories made a difference. And this is an important reminder that advocacy matters!

Advocacy is showing up again and again. It's asking hard questions. It's sharing real stories. It's submitting public comments, calling legislators, and helping decision-makers understand what policies mean for real people, real families, and real lives.

We're grateful to the state for listening to Hoosiers' concerns, and we're thankful to every person who raised their voice.

Yes, there is still work ahead. But today, we celebrate this win. We celebrate this step forward. And we celebrate what is possible when our community comes together with one voice.
