Some caveats that need to be mentioned:

- this is for a developmentally appropriate child older than 3 months of age. If your child is immunocompromised, has cystic fibrosis, indwelling catheters, etc. you should have a fever action plan with your provider.
- a good number of kids will have fever for 5 or more days when they have flu or COVID, but it is a good idea for your pediatrician to check them out and make sure there isn’t an ear infection, or signs of Kawasaki or MIS-C once that fever has been present for 5 days.
- if your child is complaining of localized pain “my ears hurt, my throat hurts really bad, my chest is hurting” it is always a good idea to have them checked out to check for things like ear infections, strep, and pneumonia.
- trust your gut! If you’re ever concerned about your child, or feel there is something wrong you just can’t place what… it is ALWAYS okay to get them checked out.

Flu did not get the memo… it is still 95 degrees out, but I guess it grows on the surface of the sun now… pick up some at-home tests to save yourself an office visit, and get your kiddo started on antiviral meds ASAP.

An update on newborn sign ups… I’d encourage you to sign up as soon as you have a due date as future months fill up sporadically; only one spot left for March 2027 for instance!
