This week has been incredibly heavy. We were heartbroken to learn that our amazing neurologist, Dr. Bello, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. He was so much more than a doctor; he was one of WesliAnn’s biggest cheer-leaders and her fiercest advocate at Arnold Palmer Hospital. His shoes will be impossible to fill, and we are holding his family and his colleagues who worked so closely with him in our prayers.
Despite this loss, we are finding peace and moving forward with the plan for WesliAnn’s care. We recently had a productive telemed appointment with our neurosurgeon, Dr. Jafrani. Because he and Dr. Bello had spoken at length about the next steps for WesliAnn, Dr. Jafrani is confident and comfortable moving ahead with the scheduled SEEG in August.
We will head to the hospital early in August for an MRI and the implantation of bone fiducials, followed by the SEEG later in the month. While this is a familiar process for WesliAnn, Dr. Jafrani believes that because they are focusing on a more targeted area—the amygdala—she will only need 6-8 probes this time, rather than the 18 she had previously. The hospital stay is typically about a week, depending on how quickly they can capture the data they need.
We covet your prayers—not just for WesliAnn, but for the entire medical team as they navigate this next chapter. Thank you for walking this road with us.
